Position Description

A vacancy exists for the position of Technical Services Officer within the Aghada Generating station.ESB Aghada Power Station in Cork consists of a 450 MW Alstom single shaft combined cycle gas turbine and 3 x 90 MW Alstom dual fuel open cycle gas turbines.

The Technical Services Officer will work across all functional areas of the station, providing technical services support to the maintenance, operations, and technical services. The role requires the successful candidate to work to the level of their competence to carry out assigned duties and to operate effectively in a dynamic, operational environment.

The position demands a high level of autonomy, flexibility, and initiative, with the ability to support other teams and projects as required to meet business needs. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders are essential.

The successful candidate will be required on occasions to be flexible to attend out of hours as required by the business

 

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of technical and operational support across Aghada Generation Station. Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering work across all areas of the station, including maintenance, technical and support functions.
  • Managing procurement activities for services and parts.
  • Maintaining station technical and safety documentation, completing inspection and work reports, and supporting compliance with ESB standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Acting as Work Controller for contractor services, including security, lift and insurance inspections, gate works, cabin hire, generator and mobile plant hire, and fire safety inspections, while ensuring compliance with the environmental management system and providing backup supervision as required and any other duties within your competence as required by your line manager.
  • Contributing to project justifications and business cases, and providing procurement support through the development of specifications, tenders, contract administration, and contractor supervision.

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential 

  • Experience and technical knowledge of power station maintenance or mechanical maintenance practices in similar heavy process industry 
  • Full Category B driving licence
  • Strong safety focus and knowledge of setting people to work safely
  • Leadership qualities with track record in supervising personnel

 

Desirable  

  • 2+ years Thermal, Hydro, or renewable generation plant maintenance or equivalent
  • Experience and Certification in the use of lifting / slinging equipment and manual handling
  • Knowledge of Lock out tag out (LOTO) and permitting systems
  • Experience in Maintenance, Environmental and Safety Management systems
  • Plant technical services experience or equivalent
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs

 

Location 

 

This position will be based in Aghada Generation Station, Co Cork

Salary

 

€41,525 - €48,852 per annum
