Contracting & Operations Team Lead, Sustainable Rivers
Position Description
At the ESB, we own and operate several hydroelectric power plants on the Shannon, Lee, Liffey, Erne, and Clady rivers. As a responsible company, we are committed to sustainable practices and minimizing the environmental impact of our operations. ESB Sustainable River Strategy (SRS) aims to improve fish passage infrastructure, enhance river connectivity, increase fish abundance in our hydro rivers, and adopt a Nature Positive Approach (NPA) on owned riversides and lakesides.
The successful candidate will assume a first line management role within the Operations team in Sustainable Rivers organisation within Generation & Trading. The team lead is responsible for the safe, efficient, reliable operation of all fisheries conservation efforts as defined in the Sustainable Rivers Strategy and for other duties as may be assigned by the Sustainable Rivers Operations Manager.
They will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and manage, develop and motivate team members. They will also have a demonstrable ability to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels in the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to the following:
- Ensuring the safe and efficient operation and delivery of elver and eel programmes across ESB’s catchments.
- Ensuring the safety of all personnel under their control.
- Leading and directing the team in their day-to-day activities, assessing training needs, developing staff and managing individual performance plans.
- Managing contractors in each of our catchments, to deliver operations within ESB’s Sustainable Rivers Strategy.
- As Work Controller, they will manage, administer and ensure compliance with the Safety Rules.
- Compliance with safety and environmental obligations across all our sites.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of procedures and systems for all Sustainable Rivers and habitat work, including agreeing protocols between various stakeholders e.g. ESB Biologist, ESB Hydro stations, IFI, Contractors, ESB Ecology, etc.
- Engagement and coordination of various external stakeholders.
- Manage sustainable rivers upgrade projects as required on GT sites.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience.
- Contracts Management degree or equivalent work experience.
- Relevant qualification or experience on ESG
- Relevant experience in operations, maintenance, technology, systems and procedures
- Experience of managing teams.
- Good IT skills
Location
The successful person will initially be based in Belmont (or similar suitable Sustainable River Locations). The successful person will be expected to travel across all locations.

Salary
€49,980 - €58,622 per annum
