Position Description
Telecommunications are transforming our lives in the way we live and work and are essential to the remote management of systems and assets. ESB Networks Telecoms group has 100 staff providing the critical operational telecom networks needed to deliver the communication systems required to control the distribution, transmission and generation systems.
Networks Telecoms deliver this by operating and managing the largest private telecommunications network in Ireland and are among a leading group of European utilities building our own private mobile network for operations. These initiatives are a critical part of our move to Smart Networks and the digitisation of ESB.
As a result, a number of roles have become available for candidates looking to be part of the innovations and work needed to build the next generation utility grade telecommunications network for the organisation.
As a Telecoms Professional within the Telecoms Service & Deployment the successful candidates will play a key role in the deployment, operation, maintenance, and future growth of ESB’s national telecommunications network.
Key Responsibilities
- Deployment and integration of new communications infrastructure into the ESB’s telecoms network.
- Responsible for ongoing support and maintenance of a wide variety of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure in ESB locations such as HV Substations, Generation Stations, Solar/Wind farms, Remote Hill sites, Datacentres, and Office premises
- Operational Technologies (OT) supported including, but not limited to, Digital polling radio, microwave point-to-point radio, fibre multiplexers, telephony systems and associated cabling.
- Support and maintain DC and backup power systems.
- Implement and support SCADA and Protection systems used to control the electricity network.
- Project management support for telecommunications projects in ESB Networks, ESB Group and EirGrid.
- On-Call or Availability will likely be a feature of this role.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A third level qualification in an electrical/ telecommunications/ IT discipline or three years relevant work experience from a trade background.
- Have a safety focused approach to work

- Adaptability and flexibility
- Full driving licence
Desirable
- Experience working on electrical systems
- Experience with preparation of safety documentation
- Experience with stakeholder engagement
- Awareness of telecommunications technologies
- Project Management experience
- Familiarity with HV environments
- On-Call or Availability experience
- Health & Safety qualifications
Location
This position will be based in:
- ESB Networks North West: Castlebar Mayo but supporting the wider Northwest region. A flexible reporting location may be considered within the Galway/Mayo region.
- ESB Networks South West: Killarney or Tralee but supporting the wider Southwest region including Cork, a flexible reporting location may be considered within the Kerry/Cork region.
- ESB Networks South Central: Rosbrien. A flexible reporting location may be considered with the south central region.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary
€48,000 - 56,000 per annum
