Position Description

 

Aghada Power Station is managed, maintained and operated to strict efficiency and availability standards in a competitive commercial market. The station is part of the Generating and Trading division of the ESB and is vital to the national electricity network.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious, high performing candidate to work in a dynamic, rewarding and results focused environment.

Reporting within the Operations function a Plant Operator is a team player and self-starter with the ability to multitask, meet deadlines as well as develop and motivate team members. Shift work is a feature of this role.

Key Responsibilities

 

Duties of the role include, but may not be limited to:

  • Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all plant on site.
  • Ensuring the safety of all personnel.
  • Carrying out in day-to-day activities such as monitoring, assessing, testing and operating plant equipment.
  • Training and developing to achieve and maintain competency.
  • Compliance with safety and environmental obligations.
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting the shift operations team in day-to-day activities.
  • Maintaining a shift operations record (log) and submitting reports as required by the Operations Manager.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of procedures and systems for plant operations, testing, and related activities.
  • Attending and contributing to scheduled meetings.
  • Involvement in initial front-line maintenance/troubleshooting.
  • Outage and project management as required.
  • Participation on business improvement projects as required.
  • Train and develop themselves and others as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  • Ability to analyse process and control information to appropriately respond to plant operational conditions.
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
  • Leaving certificate

 

Desirable

 

  • Experience of power station operations or a similar heavy process industry.
  • Engineering/technical qualification.
  • A good working knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation and standards.
  • Environmental, safety and chemistry compliance experience.
  • Relevant CSCS tickets and qualifications.
  • Awareness of Safe System of Work 
  • Experience using Maintenance/Operations Management Systems.

 

 

Location

 

This position is based in Aghada Generating Station, Co. Cork.

 

 

Reporting To

 

Manager, Aghada or person deputising as nominated.

Salary

 

€31,200 - €37,350 per annum, plus additional payment applicable while working on shift (i.e shift allowance).
