Position Description

 

Aghada Power Station is managed, maintained and operated to strict efficiency and availability standards in a competitive commercial market. The station is part of the Generating and Trading division of the ESB.

Reporting within the Operations function or as directed by Management , the Trainee Shift Manager will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multitask, meet deadlines as well as develop and motivate team members. They will train and develop themselves to assume a front-line management role within the Operations Team in Aghada Power Station. While being trained the Trainee Shift Manager will be rostered within the Operations team rota carrying out the full range of Power Plant Team Member duties and be required to be fully mandated in the Shift Manager duties. 

  

  

Key Responsibilities 

  

The key responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to the following: 

  

  • Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all plant on site. 

  • Ensuring the safety of all personnel under his/her control. 

  • Leading and directing the shift production team in their day-to-day activities, rostering, assessing training needs, developing staff and managing individual performance plans. 

  • Train and develop to achieve Power Plant Operator and Shift Manager mandation. 

  • Carry out the role and duties of Power Plant Operator providing shift cover in the Operations and Shift Manager team as required. 

  • Acting in the roles of Safety from the System Co-ordinator (SSC), Work Controller and Control Person, they will manage, administer and ensure compliance with the Safety Rules. 

  • Compliance with safety and environmental obligations. 

  • Effective Communication with internal and external stakeholders such as Eirgrid and ESB Trading. 

  • Supporting the shift operations team in day-to-day activities. 

  • Maintaining a shift operations record (log) and submitting reports as required by the Operations Manager. 

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of procedures and systems for plant operations, testing and related activities. 

  • Attending and contributing to scheduled meetings. 

  • Involvement in initial front-line maintenance/troubleshooting. 

  • Outage and project management as required. 

  • Participation on business improvement projects, as required. 

  • Train and develop themselves and others as required. 

  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager. 

  

  

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

  

Essential 

  

  • Engineering degree or equivalent or DIT Certificate in Power Plant Technology (Plant Management), or equivalent work experience. 

  

Desirable 

  

  • Relevant experience in a similar role or in power plant operations, maintenance, technology, systems and procedures. 

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership in a production environment 

  • Trained, authorised and experienced in Safe Systems of Work (SSOW). 

  • Experience of managing teams. 

  • Understanding of the commercial side of the generation business. 

  • Good IT skills (Excel, Pi Process book etc.) 

  • Experience in project management.

Salary

 

€48,100 - €56,600
