Position Description 

 

Coolkeeragh Power Station comprises CCGT and OCGT plants in the Maydown, N.Ireland. Coolkeeragh Power Station is managed, maintained and operated to strict efficiency and availability standards in a competitive commercial market. Coolkeeragh Power Station operates under the Generation and Trading division of ESB.

The Shift Operations Technician is responsible for operating the plant and its auxiliaries in the production of electricity in a safe and efficient manner. They will be required to operate as a Safety Precaution Establisher (SPE) within the plant safety rules. 

They will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

  

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Start up, shut-down and operation of Power Stations in accordance with relevant legislation, site procedures and best practice standards.
  • Monitor plant performance and alarms to ensure safe and efficient delivery of production targets and protection of plant integrity.
  • Monitoring equipment, diagnosing equipment problems and reporting abnormal conditions for corrective action using the work management system.
  • Plant attendance for routine monitoring, operations and fault response
  • Carry out first line maintenance and preventative maintenance routines to maintain plant availability and reliability. 
  • Maintain competencies as specified to meet role requirements
  • Work flexibly to meet changing operational and business requirements.
  • Carrying out project work and activities as directed
  • Ensure compliance within the ESB Safety Rules, including the SPE role.
  • Perform other roles within the safety rules such as Work Controller. 
  • Compliance with safety and environmental obligations.
  • Maintaining a shift operations record (log) and submitting operations reports as directed Assisting in the development and implementation of procedures and systems for plant operations, testing and related activities.
  • Effective Communication with stakeholders such as SONI and ESB Trading
  • Liaise with other departments as required or directed in the best interests of the business.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential

 

  • Experience of Power Stations operations or similar heavy process engineering.
  • Good IT skills

  

Qualifications

 

Essential

  • A recognised craft qualification in an engineering discipline or 3 years recent experience and competence in process plant operations.

 

Desirable 

 

  • A valid driving license

General 

 

It is not anticipated that a staff member still on probation will be eligible to apply for a promotional vacancy. Typically, an individual must have completed their probation and should have at least two years’ experience in their current role before being eligible to apply for a promotion. An application from a staff member who does not meet the above criteria must have the approval of both the senior line manager and the HRM within the BU before progressing to application 

  

Note: For staff currently on non-monthly pay frequency, any promotion to Bands 5 and above will result in a change in pay frequency to monthly.

Salary 

£39,323 - £49,158
