Position Description
Dublin Stations comprise of Poolbeg and Dublin Bay Power Plants with total power output of an 891MW CCGT plants in Dublin, Ireland. The stations are managed, maintained and operated by ESB Generation& Trading to strict efficiency and availability standards in the competitive All Islands commercial market.

The Dublin Stations Chemist will have responsibility for the management of plant chemistry on sites. Will also provide technical services support to the plant team, engineering project management, reporting, asset maintenance, asset management and environmental matters.
They will be a team player, flexible and a self-starter with good problem solving skills. They should be able to demonstrable the ability to lead and drive innovation and improvements as required.
Have a demonstrable ability to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels in the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Responsible for all plant chemistry related issues
- Ensure the effective control of power stations chemistry so as to maintain high availability, efficiency, reliability and maintainability
- Ensure that chemical safety is given the highest level of priority, such that the public, personnel and plant are protected
- Ensure that process chemistry is given high priority and awareness on site, by constantly reviewing chemistry issues with the operations team
- Ensure that the power plants are operated within stations licences and power generation technical standards
- Assist station environmental team in managing environmental matters and support as required under the stations IE Licences
- Maintain and control asbestos registers and perform the role of Asbestos Officer on both sites
- Actively being involved in project engineering and managing projects during stations overhauls and nonrecurring/recurring projects while performing Work Controller responsibilities
- Ensure effective operation of water treatment plants and electrochlorination plants to maintain high availability, efficiency, reliability and maintainability
- Manage all registers for the permanent equipment of chemical section
- Manage “Receipt & Consumption Register” of bulk chemicals
- Prepare chemical monitoring matrix which will include all the recommended continuous on-line and daily laboratory analysis
- Manage, build and develop team members withing the team and collaborate with other teams
- Proactive involvement in Station Safety initiatives and activities
- Other duties as and when assigned by the Line Manager that may include asset maintenance and management and project support.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A Primary Degree in Chemistry or equivalent is essential.
The successful candidate will have a track record in:
- Plant Chemistry
- Stakeholder Management
- Project Management
Desirable
- Substantial experience in a steam power plant or similar process industry using steam and water cycles
- Experience in power plant environmental systems.
Location
This role is based in Poolbeg and Dublin Bay Power sites, Dublin, Ireland with occasional travel.
Reporting To
The successful candidate will report to the Dublin Stations Assurance Manager.

Salary
€57,950 to €68,100 per annum
