Position Description  

 

Distributed Generation is a department within Renewable Operations (ESB Generation and Trading) with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s distributed generation asset portfolio. 

 

As part of delivery of the Net Zero by 2040 Strategy it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030. This includes 900MW of solar {dependent on planning and development) and also incorporates 500 MW of renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices such as synchronous condensers.

 

Due to the projected significant expansion of the Distributed Generation portfolio over the coming years, ESB is seeking to appoint a Distributed Generation Site Manager (Dublin Region) within the Distributed Generation O&M team.

 

The role of the Distributed Generation Site Manager is to manage all Operation and Maintenance activities on multiple sites and technologies. For new sites under construction, the role also represents the O&M interests to ensure the safe and smooth transition of the project from energisation into commercial operation. The role forms part of a wider Site Manager team in the Dublin region. This position offers candidates an exciting opportunity to join an expanding business area and gain significant site and commercial experience.

 

Responsibilities will be as per business needs and flexibility to adapt to these needs will be a core requirement of this role.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities will include the items below in the O&M phase:

 

  • Responsibility for the onsite operations of multiple sites and technologies (Battery & Gas-fired Generation) spread across the Dublin region.
  • Ensure safety and environmental obligations are met for efficient operation of plant on those sites, including local operation of plant as required.
  • Implement and maintain plant procedures, site policies and safety programs.
  • Provide a timely site response capability in the event of an issue developing on a site that is remotely monitored. It is a requirement of this role that the Renewables Site Manager would participate in an on-call rota. Requirement to respond to alarms and events on the site during normal and outside normal working hours.
  • Management of service providers and contractors onsite including performing inductions and setting to work as required.
  • Manage, administer and ensure compliance with the ESB Safety Rules in operation. This role may involve undertaking various roles within the ESB Safety Rules.
  • Management of warranty issues
  • Support optimisation of lifetime O&M and asset management planning.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects as assigned in the O&M area.
  • Outage and project management as required.
  • Support other Site Managers as required.

 

 

Responsibilities will include the items below in the Construction/Mobilisation phase:

 

  • Develop and implement Mobilisation Plans for new sites including all relevant Safety/Environmental, operational policies and procedures, O&M and engineering documentation and drawings required to be in place for the asset transfer.
  • Support the preparation of inspection and maintenance schedules for plant via the CMMS.
  • Perform duties and execute roles in accordance with ESB Safety Rules as required.
  • Acting as Site Manager for initial period of operation of the site prior to full transfer to O&M.

 

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  • Have minimum 5 years work experience in operation and maintenance of generating plant.
  • A Technical or Engineering Qualification (preferably Mechanical/Electrical/C&I) or equivalent experience with plant operation or maintenance.
  • Be assertive and have excellent communication skills.
  • Have a strong safety and risk management focus.
  • Be flexible and service motivated.
  • Have strong reporting and documentation skills.
  • Have ability to work on own initiative and develop and improve procedures.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours (office and on site) to accommodate site mobilisation and operational requirements.
  • Ability to work on own initiative in isolated locations

 

Desirable

 

  • Trained, authorised and experienced in ESB Generation and Trading SSoW Safety Rules
  • Understanding of the commercial side of the generation business
  • Experience in front line maintenance activities

 

 

Location

 

The successful candidate will be based on site at the relevant Flexgen site locations in the greater Dublin region. Rotation within Distributed Generation O&M may feature as part of this role.

 

 

Reporting To

 

Reporting to the Operations Manager during the O&M phase and to the Mobilisation Manager for sites under construction.

Salary

 

€57,900 - €68,000 per annum.

 

There will be an on call allowance available whilst in this role.
