Position Description

ESB Trading is a section of the Generation and Trading division of ESB and trades the output from the ESB portfolio in GB and Ireland through various trading strategies and time horizons. ESB Prompt Trading desks operate across all short-term Power and Gas Markets to optimise ESB positions in these markets and to maximise value from the ESB generation portfolio.

We are currently seeking a candidate with high potential to manage our Gas & ISEM Prompt Trading team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage trading of the largest generation portfolio in the ISEM market and shape ESB Trading strategy as the markets continue to grow and develop.

The ISEM Prompt Manager will operate as part of the wider ESB Trading management team in delivering against business plan targets and contribute to the development of an informed and empowered workforce through effective communications, teamwork, accountability and key performance measures. The ISEM Prompt Manager will be customer centric, leading engagement with a range of stakeholders including ESB Generation, Eirgrid, SEMO, Gas Networks Ireland and other areas of ESB to grow and enhance the business, focusing on developing Trading Strategies in line with ESB’s Brighter Future strategy.

The successful candidate will lead and manage the ISEM Prompt Trading teams with upcoming developments in the ISEM market and will have responsibly to contribute towards the successful delivery of the financial targets of a trading business. They will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and manage, develop and motivate team members. They will also have a demonstrable ability to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels in the organisation. The candidate will drive and facilitate innovation within the team identifying market opportunities ensuring a consistent commercial approach is adopted and all commercial initiatives are aligned with ESB Trading Strategy. 

 

Key Responsibilities

The range of activities that the successful candidate will be expected to perform include:

  • Ensure the Trading team acts in a proactive manner in power and gas markets to continually seek to optimise trading positions in the prompt electricity markets.
  • Maintain and develop prompt trading systems and processes to ensure that all prompt traded positions are optimised and that operational and regulatory risk is managed in a robust manner.
  • Management and delivery of the annual Gas Capacity strategy on behalf of ESB Group.
  • Manage Regulatory compliance and incident reporting across the trading teams.
  • Engage positively with counterparties both external and internal to foster collaborative relationships.
  • Proactively support and develop the capabilities of the team.
  • Engaging with the wider Generation and Trading team to ensure that potential new investment opportunities are properly assessed from Prompt perspective.

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

The successful candidate should possess the following:

  • Extensive experience/knowledge of Electricity and Gas markets and associated commodity markets.
  • It is expected that the successful candidate will possess a third level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Have a minimum of 7 years relevant work experience.
  • Have a good understanding of operational risk management in a Trading environment.
  • Proven commercial acumen skills, as well as a strong numeric and analytical background with attention to detail.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills at peer level and senior levels of the business and ability to deliver change.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team, taking ownership of work / projects and motivating team members to deliver team objectives or projects.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive collaborative relationships across different teams and business units.

 

Location

The position will be based in ESB Head Office, Fitzwilliam Street Lower, Dublin. 

ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration required typically two days per week in line with the ESB Trading smart working charter. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary

€83,450 - €98,150
