Position Description

 

The Renewable Operations Centre Manager role is directly aligned with our corporate strategy. The priority for the role is the leadership of the Renewable Operations Centre (ROC) team to deliver excellent safe, secure and optimized performance of multiple generation technologies operated and monitored from the ROC. 

 

The Renewable Operations Centre remotely monitors and controls the ESB Generation and Trading renewable and renewable enabling generation portfolio. The portfolio includes onshore wind, battery energy storage systems, solar, synchronous condensers and flexible gas plant. 

 

The Renewable Operations Centre Manager will focus on the performance and capability of the 24/7 Renewable Operations Centre and transform the ROC tools and processes to deliver excellent remote operation performance for the expanding portfolio.

 

The Renewable Operations Centre is central to the operation of the renewable generation portfolio, working in collaboration with other teams across Generation and Trading is key for the role. The role will also involve stakeholder engagement.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities of the ROC Operations Manager will include the items below:

 

  • Deliver excellent safety and operational performance of the generation portfolio operated from renewable operations centre, including:
    • Remote monitoring, control and management of, Onshore Wind, BESS, Solar, Synchronous Condenser, Flexible Gas Plant.  
    • Compliance with relevant license and regulatory obligations e.g. REMIT.
    • Work with trading, site operations and asset management functions to deliver operational excellence.
    • Facilitate the Testing & Commissioning of the portfolio as required.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders effectively, including management of 24/7 OEM support facilities, the National Control Centre (NCC) as required.
  • Lead the Renewable Operations Control Centre 24/7 Team.
    • Develop the Renewable Operations team.
    • Build capability and competence within the team.
    • Manage the Renewable Operations Control Centre performance.
  • Ensure excellent remote operation practices and performance in the Renewable Operations Centre.
    • Implement clear, understood and practiced procedures and processes.
    • Ensure compliance with safety processes, for example, WTSR (Wind Turbine Safety Rules), ERP (Emergency Response Procedures), BCP (Business Continuity Plans).
    • Deliver effective management of alarms and events.
  • Identify and adopt leading remote operation tools to enable excellent business performance and cyber security.  

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  • Proven ability to deliver on the “key responsibilities” outlined above.
  • 8+ years Energy Industry work experience
  • Experience in Operational and Maintenance requirements of various Generating Technologies.
  • Strong commercial acumen and awareness.
  • Stakeholder Management – internal, external, technology providers/contractors.
  • Knowledge of Operational & Safety requirements with Strong Safety Leadership

 

 

Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  • Relevant 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience is required.

 

 

Location

 

The successful candidate will be based at the Renewable Operations Centre (ROC), ESB Generation and Trading Offices in Fitzwilliam St., Dublin.

Salary

 

€69,500 - €81,800
