Risk Reporting and Analytics Analyst, ESB Trading [Temporary 12 months]
Position Description
ESB Trading delivers essential asset optimisation services, risk management and wholesale market access to ESB Group and to its third-party customers. ESB Trading is organised into a number of teams comprising Front, Middle (Risk) and Back Offices along with Finance, Modelling and IT&Digital.
This role, in the Middle Office team, will provide an excellent opportunity to assess, understand and oversee the market risks inherent in trading the output of ESB generation assets in the wholesale energy market. A risk analyst will become an expert in ESB Trading’s activities across the Irish Power, GB Power, Gas and Carbon markets as well as the impact renewables has on these markets. This will involve working closely with front office traders & teams across ESB Trading to understand current and emerging market exposures & to put in place appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
We are looking for a candidate with potential to analyse and report on the market risks within ESB’s energy portfolio.
The successful candidate will:
- Understand, assess and quantify the market risk of ESB Trading’s initiatives and strategies
- Deliver an independent view of the trading risks across ESB Trading’s portfolio in both GB and I-SEM markets and communicate that view to senior stakeholders
- Provide a challenge and oversight role over trading activities ensuring risks are effectively evaluated and managed
- Play an integral part in developing and evaluating trading and hedging strategies, new products and contracts
- Use data to understand and quantify market risk, sharing the outcome of their analysis to support or challenge trading strategies
- Report on trading activities to test if they are compliant with approved trading limits and controls
- Work closely with other teams across ESB Trading to measure, monitor and manage risk within ESB Trading
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A third level qualification in Engineering, Finance or equivalent numerical qualification or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
- A strong numeric and analytical ability with attention to detail
- Good decision making and problem-solving capability, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Responds to change within a fast-changing business environment
- Proven ability to work on own initiative and deliver results to strict deadlines
Desirable
- An understanding of energy trading markets
Location
This position will be based in in Fitzwilliam 27, Fitzwilliam Street Lower, Dublin 2.

Salary
€57,950 - €68,100
