Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations, Hydro Team Members - Mechanical Fitter / EI
Position Description
This is an opportunity to work as part of a leading-edge team in Ireland’s only pumped storage hydro power station located at Turlough Hill, and in our 3 traditional hydro power stations on the River Liffey.
We have been generating electricity on the Liffey since 1944, and at Turlough Hill since 1974. Our stations have a combined generating capacity of 330MW. The stations asset management team play a pivotal role in ensuring the stations commercial / technical performance is optimised.
Liffey and Turlough Hill stations are made up of 4 separate generating locations; 292MW of pumped storage at Turlough Hill and 38MW of hydro generation at Poulaphuca, Golden Falls and Leixlip. This comprises 9 power turbines and all the associated dams, gates and civil structures associated with the river Liffey hydroelectric scheme and Turlough Hill.
ESB Turlough Hill & Liffey Hydro Power Stations are currently have two positions open;
- Hydro Team Member - Mechanical Fitter
- Hydro Team Member - Electrical & Instrumentation
The Hydro Team Members will be required to work across all functional areas within the station including maintenance, operations, technical services, civil, supervision and contractor management. The successful candidate will be required to work to the level of their competence to carry out their duties. They will be required to work autonomously, be flexible and be a self-starter, providing support to other teams and projects as required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others is required.
Key Responsibilities
Duties of the role includes but may not be limited to:
- Delivery of work across all areas of the station, including maintenance, technical and support functions.
- Working safely, flexibly and to competence, as part of the overall team.
- All aspects of mechanical fitting work/ electrical and instrumentation work in an industrial work environment.
- Act as team leader in a ‘hands on’ capacity as required
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the CMMS maintenance management system.
- Writing and implementing procedures and working instructions.
- Carry out authorized roles under the safety rules as required (Safe Systems of Work).
- Any other duties as required which may be assigned to you, from time to time, by your line manager.
- The successful candidate will be required on occasions to have flexible working hours including weekend and night working and be available for call-outs.
Experience and Qualifications
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and required to work as part of a close team in a Generating Station environment, interacting effectively with other station staff and contractors as necessary.
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience of hands-on industrial mechanical fitting or; Electrical/ Control & Instrumentation Maintenance in an industrial work environment.
- FAS / SOLAS / Senior Trade qualification in relevant disciplines
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of HV/MV/LV electrical systems and C&I systems if applying for Hydro Team Member - Electrical & Instrumentation
- Experience in machining, fitting, welding, and other workshop equipment if applying for Hydro Team Member – Mechanical Fitter
- Full B driving license
- Good IT skills. Applicants must be proficient in the use of computer systems.
Desirable
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) training, license, or qualification.
- Thermal, Hydro, or renewable generation plant maintenance / operations experience or equivalent in heavy industry.
- Experience in mechanical process/production facilities.
- Experience and Certification in the use of lifting / slinging equipment and manual handling.
- Experience in Maintenance, Environmental and Safety Management systems
- Staff and/or Contractor supervision experience or equivalent
Location
The successful person will be based at Turlough Hill & Liffey Generating Stations.

Salary
€43,250 - €48,750 per annum
