Position Description

 

Two vacancies exist for the position of Hydro Team Member, Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Technician, Donegal stations.

 

Donegal stations are high efficiency producers of renewable energy and are part of ESB’s goal to reach Net Zero by 2040. The Hydro Team Member would be an Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Technician with a home base at Cathaleen’s Fall (Ballyshannon) and will be required to work across all three locations including Cliff (Ballyshannon) and Clady Hydro Generating Station (Gweedore) as needed.

 

As a member of the station team, the Hydro Team Member will be required to work across all functional areas including maintenance, operations, technical services, facilities, civil and dam safety, supervision, and contractor management.  The successful candidate will be required to work to the level of their competence to carry out their duties. They will provide support to other teams and projects.  Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously, be flexible, and work effectively with others is required.  The successful candidate will give and receive training as defined by plant management to attain and maintain competencies.

The successful candidate will be required on occasion to have flexible working hours including weekend and night working and be available for callouts.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • All aspects of electrical and instrumentation work in an industrial work environment
  • Delivery of work across all areas of the station, including maintenance, operations, control room, civil, technical, and support functions 
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the CMMS+ work management system
  • Writing and implementing procedures and working instructions
  • Supervising and directing contractors
  • Act as Team Leader in a ‘hands on’ capacity
  • Carry out authorized roles including work controller under the safety rules as required (Safe Systems of Work)
  • Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality management responsibilities
  • Provide back-up for plant controller coverage/isolation duties as needed

 

Experience and Qualifications 

 

Essential

 

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Electrical / Control & Instrumentation Maintenance
  • FAS / SOLAS / Senior Trade qualification in Electrical & Instrumentation or equivalent work experience
  • Full Category B driving licence
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of HV/MV/LV electrical systems and C&I systems

 

 Desirable 

 

  • An understanding of mechanical, heavy rotational and pressure systems is desirable
  • Experience in liaising with relevant statutory bodies and contractors
  • Experience in project management and good planning skills
  • Understanding of control systems
  • Understanding of PLC’s
  • Understanding of relay protection
  • Experience with instrumentation calibration & troubleshooting
  • Experience with HV, MV, LV, and control signal testing

 

Location

 

This position will be based in Donegal Hydro Power Stations, home base in Cathaleen’s Fall (Ballyshannon), and working between there, Cliff, and Clady Stations as needed.

 

Reporting To

 

The Hydro Team Member – Electrical and Instrumentation reports to the Production Supervisor, Donegal Stations

Salary

 

€44,788- €50,483 per annum
