Auditor in Charge
Position description
As Auditor in Charge, you will play a pivotal role in supporting ESB’s commitment to achieving NetZero by 2040 for the customers and communities we serve. Through your work across key business areas—including Customer Solutions, Group Finance, and People & Sustainability—you will help ensure that ESB’s strategic transformation and operational activities are aligned with our ambitious decarbonisation goals, continued financial strength and customer empowerment. By delivering high-impact audits and shaping risk management practices, you will provide assurance that our initiatives are aligned with strategy, robust, risks are proactively managed, and opportunities for innovation are identified and acted upon. Your insights and recommendations will directly contribute to ESB’s journey towards a low-carbon future, supporting the organisation’s resilience, agility, and leadership in the energy transition.
Join ESB Group Internal Audit in a role that places you at the centre of strategic transformation and operational excellence. As Auditor in Charge, you’ll work with a skilled audit team to deliver a diverse portfolio of assignments initially across Customer Solutions, Group Finance, SIT, Company Secretary and People & Sustainability. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence how ESB manages risk, drives innovation, and achieves its strategic objectives.
You’ll collaborate on projects that enhance ESB’s resilience and agility, gaining exposure to a wide range of strategic, technological, and operational activities. Your insights will help shape decision-making and support continuous improvement across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver High-Impact Audits: Plan, manage, and deliver audit assignments that support ESB’s strategic priorities and operational goals

Shape Risk Management: Maintain and develop the audit universe for key business areas, ensuring proactive coverage and effective risk oversight

Enhance Professional Skills: Benefit from ongoing investment in your development, including training in internal auditing, stakeholder engagement, communications, and analytical thinking

Collaborate for Success: Work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure the efficient delivery of the audit schedule and contribute to ESB’s overall success

Champion Best Practice: Support the delivery of a professional audit service by applying industry-leading methodologies and driving process improvement

Communicate Insights: Present findings and recommendations to management, helping to resolve issues and inform strategic decisions

Support Integrity and Wellbeing: Participate in investigations as needed and promote ESB’s values around health, safety, and wellbeing
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
-
Recognised professional or third-level qualification, or equivalent experience
-
Minimum of 7+ years' professional experience overall to include a minimum of 3 years in internal audit, external audit, finance, risk management or governance roles.

Ability to plan and organise work at scale, delivering to required timescales and quality

Good understanding of governance, risk management, and audit frameworks

Great stakeholder management and analytical skills

Effective communicator and team player
Desirable

Institute of Internal Auditors Certification

Recognised professional accountancy qualification

Industry certifications in governance, risk management or compliance

Project management qualification
Location
This position will be based in ESB Head Office, 27 Fitzwilliam, Dublin 2.
ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least two anchor days per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

This role reports to the GIA Audit Manager for Portfolio.

Salary
€71,900 - €84,600 per annum, depending on experience.
