CAD Specialist
We are looking for a CAD Specialist with at least 3 years’ experience, to provide physical substation design services for conceptual and planning drawings for high voltage transmission and distribution assets.
In support of ESB’s strategic objectives of decarbonising electricity, building resilient infrastructure and empowering clients, you will focus on developing physical designs for substation projects at pre capital approval stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering conceptual and planning-stage substation designs on schedule, including feasibility studies and site layouts for pipeline projects.
- Coordinating with design teams across engineering disciplines and business units.
- Helping to develop standardised layouts and CAD cells.
- Contributing to design risk assessments, constructability reviews, and project risk registers.
- Creating procedural documents to support efficient, high-quality workflows.
- Managing design time and costs to maximise efficiency and value in the project pipeline.
- Streamlining processes using feedback and lessons learned from past projects.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Third level qualification or appropriate experience.
- Minimum 3 years' experience.
- Proficient in Bentley Microstation and AutoCAD for substation layouts, elevations and cross-sections.
- A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to EMPs safety, time, quality and cost objectives.
- A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to meet agreed KPIs.
- Solid understanding of substation physical design principles.
- Excellent technical and communication skills.
Desirable
- Proficient in 3D modelling, Vehicle Tracking/Swept Path Analysis, and Building Information Modelling.
- Experienced in planning stage design and jurisdictional submissions.
- Holds a full driver’s licence for use in the ROI, access to a car, and the flexibility to travel nationwide.
Location
This position will be based in our new Dublin city centre offices at the Sidings, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 2. The role may require a certain amount of travel within Ireland.

€41,500 to €48,500
