Join our dedicated team within Engineering and Major Projects delivering specialist civil engineering services for the planning and development of high voltage transmission and distribution assets in the Networks Business. The team specialises in: 

  • Development stage design
  • Management of sub-contractors and sub-consultants
  • Consultation with planning authorities and state bodies
  • Design Safety Management
  • Project Scoping, Programming and Commercial Management

You will work within the Site Acquisitions Team, based in Group Property and Security. As a Civil Technologist, you will be responsible for delivering civil engineering designs and coordinate with technical specialists from project inception through planning stage design and submission for electricity infrastructure projects at ESB.

 

Key Responsiblities 

  • Deliver conceptual and planning-stage substation designs on schedule, including feasibility studies and site layouts for pipeline projects.
  • Coordinate with design teams and contractors across engineering disciplines.
  • Help develop standardized layouts and CAD cells.
  • Contribute to design risk assessments, constructability reviews, and project risk registers.
  • Create procedural documents to support efficient, high-quality workflows.
  • Manage design time and costs to maximize efficiency and value in the project pipeline.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by demonstrating commitment and accountability.
  • Streamline processes using feedback and lessons learned from past projects.

 Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years' civil engineering or planning design experience
  • Third level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD for substation layouts, elevations, cross-sections, and drainage design
  • Solid understanding of substation physical design principles
  • Strong work ethic focused on safety, timeliness, quality, and cost
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities
  • Excellent technical and communication skills

Desirable

  • Proficient in Civil 3D, CAD Vehicle Tracking/Swept Path Analysis, and Building Information Modelling. Experienced in planning stage design and jurisdictional submissions.
  • Holds a full driver’s licence for use in the ROI, access to a car, and the flexibility to travel nationwide.

Location

This position will be based in one of ESB E&MP’s Offices at Dublin Airport or Eastgate, Cork.

Salary 

€48,145 to €56,640 per annum.
