Cloud Infrastructure Operations Manager
Position Description

With over 900 staff and partners working across IT Delivery, together we Design, Build and Run a broad range of technologies and services to deliver on our strategic objectives – decarbonised electricity, resilient infrastructure and empowered customers. The Run mandate is delivered by the Infrastructure Operations team through the management of the technology platforms which enable ESB’s IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology) systems.
The team is responsible for the management and maintenance of these systems including new work and transition to support. Our overall objective is to ensure continuous performance, reliable, secure and resilient infrastructure for ESB. We plan and execute proactive maintenance to prevent or minimise scheduled and unscheduled system downtime to ESB’s systems.

The Cloud Infrastructure Operations Manager, one of four positions on the Infrastructure Operations Leadership team, is responsible for smooth functioning, availability and performance of business-critical systems and workloads hosted in the Cloud for ESB. The successful candidate will demonstrate values-led inclusive leadership behaviours to set and assure the standard for positive behaviours across the organisation and create an environment to support collaboration and high performance.
Key Responsibilities
- The Cloud Infrastructure Operations Manager is responsible for smooth functioning, availability and performance of business‑critical systems and workloads hosted in the Cloud for ESB, ensuring the team operate and monitor a secure, stable, resilient and growing platform in the Cloud.
- Contribute, as part of the leadership team, to the overall strategic direction of the business area including the setting of team goals.
- Drive and implement ESB’s Cloud Strategy through the continued deployment of Cloud architecture to support key critical internal and public facing products.
- Establish & run a Cloud FinOps competency to ensure financial governance across teams maximising ESB Cloud investment, including design, formation & implementation of a new Cloud FinOps practice to govern cloud costs.
- Plan & schedule the delivery of new releases while maintaining availability during critical business hours, and transition new or upgraded products, projects back into support, working with product/project delivery to ensure the successful integration of applications.
- Plan, own and ensure that there is an up‑to‑date strategic service roadmap for the technology platforms under your area, ensuring that technology versions in your area become current and stay current.
- Be accountable for the provision of all services to agreed Timeframes (SLAs), Cyber Security Standards and Budgets.
- Lead and motivate team members to ensure a sense of team and a clear understanding of goals and objectives, ensuring that services are resourced with the correct mix of skills and capability to deliver successful outcomes for ESB, and be accountable for team members’ health, safety, wellbeing, development, and engagement.
- Manage relationships with business line customers, service providers, and strategic partners for the area, including managing the use of third‑party partners and managed services and building partnerships with services of CIO such as Architecture, Cybersecurity, Business Unit Pillars and Project/Product Delivery.
- Deliver automation and other efficiencies across ESB Cloud platform, supporting the drive to adoption of new Generative & Open AI and Azure Fabric modelling technologies across Infrastructure Operations, and ensuring the team maintain procedures and quality standards as related to the area.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum of 10 years' relevant IT experience with the ability to manage large teams in a multi-vendor environment or deliver a large-scale project or programme of projects.
- Strong and demonstrable systems and strategic thinking skills, including the ability to capture the key elements of a system and/or technology into a simple abstraction to empower good decisions.
- Strong written and oral communication skills along with solid business, financial and commercial skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Infrastructure Operations Leadership Team and with senior business stakeholders.
- Management of third-party service providers.
Desirable
- Third level IT-related qualification or equivalent work experience.
Location
This position will be based in F27, ESB Head Office, Dublin. Occasional travel to ESB sites may be a feature of this role.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.
Reporting To
The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager, Infrastructure Operations.

Salary
€86,300 - €101,600 per annum (depending on experience)
