Commercial Bid Manager, Smart Energy Services
Position Description
The Smart Energy Services (SES) business was formed to develop and deliver integrated energy management solutions for large energy users in Ireland and the UK. SES design, develop and deliver tailored solutions which include energy efficiency, onsite generation and demand management technologies, and we work in partnership with our customers to create long term shared value.
We are seeking an experienced and energetic Commercial Bid Manager to assist us in growing the business. This is a customer-centric role requiring close collaboration and engagement with our Sales and Engineering teams to develop and deliver the best technical and commercial solution to meet the needs of our customers and deliver best value to SES.
Supporting the Sales team by conducting analysis of commercial opportunities for bid preparation, the role will involve working closely with the Engineering/Delivery and Finance Teams to develop pricing for commercial customer contracts, contract delivery strategies, risk management and reporting.
The Commercial Bid Manager will safeguard the financial and commercial interests of SES by managing and controlling commercial and legal risk, income and expenditure. The successful candidate will also contribute to the delivery of projects in a timely, efficient, sustainable and safe manner whilst achieving these commercial targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Sales team in negotiating and agreeing customer contracts to manage risk exposure
- Lead the contract procurement, negotiations, and award process for SES contractors, in conjunction with the Engineering & Delivery function
- Carry out cost analysis and contract negotiation in a variety of agreements (EPC, O&M, Leases, Licences, Vendor Frameworks)
- Prepare customer and EPC contract documentation in association with ESB Legal
- Review of tender documentation to extract key project data and develop heads of terms, supported by the Sales team
- Drive efficiencies to ensure contracts remain financially viable and delivered on budget
- Liaise with Engineering & Finance teams to develop pricing and commercial models for all identified opportunities.
- Ensure necessary approvals are drafted and secured in accordance with internal approvals and governance procedures
- Prepare and monitor proposition risk schedules
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- At least 7 years industry experience
- 3rd level qualification/Degree (Engineering or Business Management)
- Track record of successful contract negotiation
- Advanced negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Financial skill to appraise project returns and profitability
- Strong commercial acumen and business understanding
- Prioritise and work on multiple projects as required
Desirable
- Understanding of energy management, energy efficiency and distributed generation technologies
- Experience in new technology introduction
- Experience working in the Energy Service Sector
- Conceptual understanding of contract law
- An understanding of bonds, Warranty Insurances and associated risks
Location
The successful candidate will be based in Santry, Dublin; however, some travel may be required from time to time.

Salary
€69,500 - €81,500 per annum depending on experience.
