Position Description


The Distribution Markets and System Operation (DMSO) Operations Systems Support (OSS) team is seeking to fill the role of SCADA Specialist. The role of the OSS team is to support and maintain ESB Networks’ critical Operational Technology (OT) systems which include SCADA, Network Management System (NMS) and Geographic Information System (GIS). The OSS Cybersecurity team is responsible for supporting and maintaining a strong cybersecurity posture across ESB Networks’ OT systems.


The Cybersecurity Senior Professional will play a key role in strengthening the cybersecurity posture of OSS OT environments. The role will support the OSS Cybersecurity Lead and the wider OSS organisation in delivering the Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity plan, contributing to audits and reviews, and proactively mitigating emerging threats that may impact critical OT systems.


In support of ESB’s strategic objectives of decarbonising electricity, building resilient infrastructure and empowering clients, the successful candidate will assist in developing and enhancing cybersecurity processes and controls within OSS to ensure ongoing compliance with the NIS 2 Directive and the Critical Entities Resilience (CER) Directive, working closely with internal teams, external partners and system vendors.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and stay current on NIS 2, CER Directive regulations and industry cybersecurity trends.
  • Identify potential NIS 2 and CER Directive compliance gaps across SCADA, NMS and other OT systems and develop mitigation plans; support mitigation programmes to implement and track these plans.
  • Support ongoing monitoring to ensure OT cybersecurity processes and technical controls continue to meet NIS 2 and CER compliance requirements.
  • Assist in preparing documentation required for governance and NIS 2 compliance audits.
  • Support interactions with internal audit teams and external regulatory bodies during audits, assessments or required meetings.
  • Provide status reports and metrics that give clear visibility of overall cybersecurity posture and NIS 2 and CER Directive compliance.
  • Coordinate with OSS teams, Corporate Cybersecurity, Telecoms and IT teams to ensure OT processes and technical solutions meet cybersecurity standards.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams on cybersecurity incidents, issue resolution and improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with vendors to complete system reviews, vulnerability assessments, mitigation activities and other cybersecurity tasks.
  • Support DMSO and OT Delivery in the delivery of OT cybersecurity projects.
  • Assist with system upgrades including patching, hardening and security configuration changes.
  • Monitor OT system alert logs to proactively identify emerging risks and initiate timely remediation actions.
  • Support cybersecurity risk assessments for new and existing OT systems.
  • Review and maintain OT runbooks and Disaster Recovery plans.
  • Support the management and upkeep of network device inventories and configuration baselines for OT environments.
  • Provide support to the OSS Cybersecurity Lead on operational and compliance activities.
  • Provide OT cybersecurity subject matter expertise to operational teams

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in an OT cybersecurity role.
  • 3rd level qualification in the relevant field or relevant work experience
  • Strong knowledge of IT/OT security principles, technologies and industry best practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively to identify root causes and develop effective solutions with minimal oversight.
  • Strong organisational skills with the capability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

 

Desirable 

  • Engineering or Cybersecurity background with experience working in an Electrical, Telecoms or Control and Instrumentation discipline.
  • Certification or relevant experience in ISO 27001, ISO 9001, IEC 62443, NERC CIP, NIS‑2, NIST SP 800‑82, NIST SP 800‑53 and the Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture.
  • CISSP or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in cybersecurity policies, standards and procedures within an Operational Technology environment.
  • Knowledge of typical SCADA and NMS Operational Technologies.
  • Understanding of network architecture and topologies.
  • Ability to perform monitoring and troubleshooting of cybersecurity issues.
  • Experience implementing or working to IT/OT security standards.
  • Experience developing security policies, standards and procedures.
  • Familiarity with threat intelligence, vulnerability assessment, identity management and incident response.
  • Ability to proactively research and maintain awareness of the evolving cyber‑threat landscape.

 

Location
This position will be based in ESB Networks, Leopardstown Road, Dublin 18.

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful  candidate may work flexibly within the  jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary

€59,000 to €70,000 per annum
