Position Description:

 

The role of the Engineering Officer is to provide safe network designs for work to be carried out by ESB staff and/or contractors as per Work Programs and to the standards as laid down by the Asset Managers. Depending upon the specific role assignment this can apply to domestic, commercial and industrial new or increased customer connections as well as design associated with the Capital Work Programme including line design from LV to 38kV, underground design and station design up to 38kV. 

 

All design work is required to be completed in a timely manner and in the most economical fashion within ESB design standards and guidelines and ensuring that ESB Networks Customer Charter standards are adhered to. The role includes managing design workload in own area of work.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Preparing high quality designs; calculating costs; preparing capital approvals, authorisations, protection settings, design drawings; measuring design clearances, and issuing wayleaves for 38kV, MV, and LV networks, including use of all associated IT systems.
  • Manage design workload as agreed with Design Manager.
  • Delivering an excellent customer service.
  • Participating in the correlation and scheduling of construction work.
  • Recording and updating the Distribution Network.
  • Maintaining commercial focus by preparing least cost technically acceptable designs.
  • Liaising and negotiating with Local Authorities, landowners and other parties to obtain routes for cables and lines. Arranging cable easements and forestry easements and arranging road opening and closure licences where required. Applying for and processing Road Opening Licences.
  • Site Acquisition and Planning Permission as required.
  • Major Projects as part of the Capital Delivery Program.
  • Compliance with H&S Legislation.
  • Mapping and recording duties as required.
  • Gaining and maintaining an excellent knowledge of HV and/or MV Electrical Networks depending on specific area of work and expertise.
  • Providing support in the planning and execution of construction and maintenance work programmes as required.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential

  • Implements standards and policies to ensure optimum design
  • Knowledge of network assets; Sub-Station, Lines, Cables, Protection and Metering
  • Understands and applies the relevant approved Quality Management standards in ESB Networks
  • Project Management skills
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of ESB IT systems
  • Knowledge of MS Office IT applications

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Either a 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.

Salary Range

 

€43,800 - €54,000
