Data Analysis & Visualisation Manager
Position Description
The National Capacity Deployment in ESB Networks is responsible for accelerating the deployment of suite of dedicated projects, that will advance resolution to capacity constraints across the distribution network, ahead of complex, multi-year infrastructure projects coming on-stream in the latter part of PR6 or in PR7.
In this core business area, the Data Analysis & Visualisation Manager is responsible for analysing and assessing the major elements of forecasting and data analytics work increasingly coming to the fore to inform the general strategic and increased demand/electrification agendas by collating organisationally all relevant datasets – including network asset data, customer and LCT datasets, smart metering data, and other existing or emergent data – to front-end a core analytics and integration function in this team, that will provide considered and comprehensive evidence base and suite of visualisation tools, that will be used to inform this critical business area and the advancement of solutions for accelerating capacity.
In this way the Data Analysis & Visualisation Manager is responsible for building and leading the data analysis and visualisation function that will enable timely, data‑driven planning and prioritisation of network capacity deployment interventions, and ensures ESB Networks has a robust data suite and visualisation tools to support the investment case for capacity intervention scopes, improvement of delivery readiness and the acceleration of customer connections.
The role transforms previous work by Powering Ahead into the next phase of a comprehensive, embedded and enduring function within the National Capacity Deployment team, leading and managing all requirements associated with data analytics for this high priority area and core business objective of PR6.
Key Responsibilities

Pro-active in the identification of data requirements, associated analysis and integrations that require creation, review and/or improvement, aligning initiatives with organisational goals and priorities.

Development of various data models & dashboards that provide the right insights to the National Capacity Deployment team and implement digital solutions that have a positive impact for ESB Networks & our customers – for example: capacity headroom dashboard, integrations with New Connections / Network Development / other.

Deliver data visualisation tools in partnership with National Capacity Deployment, Network Development and other relevant business managers and key stakeholders. Drive change management initiatives to translate benefits realised and ensure change is embedded.

Lead in data collection, analysis, gathering, consolidation, tracking and interpretation - from a range of cohorts including customers, regulatory inputs, market developments and strategic stakeholders.

Develop and maintain forecasting and a bottom-up approach to forward‑looking projections of both connections and estimation of demand. Create scenarios that will guide medium‑ and long‑term capacity planning, applying a regional/national approach.

To do so, monitor and interpret external policy, customer trends, regulatory trends and infrastructure needs affecting network demand

Translate data analysis insights into recommendations that inform project identification, prioritisation and investment case preparation.

Build and maintain data analysis and visualisation tools providing data-led and detailed insights that can be used to make the right decisions on investment and capacity interventions. Foster a culture of innovation to continuously improve analyses/processes, ensuring reviews are conducted using appropriate frameworks and methodologies.

Develop and track relevant KPIs to track & measure the progression and success of the data analysis and its impact on the business.

Evaluate and implement (innovative) technologies, data models etc, to enhance efficiency and identify opportunities for automation.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Develop and build strong business relations with internal and external stakeholders, work closely with Cluster Managers, Engineering, Network Development/ Planning and Commercial teams to validate demand data and ensure insights inform project scoping and solutioning.

Coordinate with internal and external partners to gather data and validate infrastructure needs, customer inputs and emerging trends.

Support scenario modelling activities and strategic capacity planning processes.

Represent ESB Networks at industry events, fora, seminars and conferences.

Develop and demonstrate thought-leadership skills in the digital space & analytics community, and the evolution of electrical utilities on account of such impending change.

Prepare reports, analyse and interpret data to inform the proactive approach to accelerating capacity deployment, hat aligns with ESB Networks’ Networks for Net Zero Strategy and PR6 commitments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
-
Experience in analytics, forecasting, planning, system modelling or a similar discipline.

Experience working in large infrastructure, utility, energy systems, engineering or network planning environments.

Proven experience delivering data‑driven insights for strategic or operational decision‑making. Strong technical capability.

Solid knowledge of data analytics and visualisation packages such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.

Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and VBA programming & at least one programming language such as Python.

Excellent communication and report writing skills, demonstrated ability in reviewing and creating comprehensive documentation, report writing and communication to varied audiences

Proven track record of delivery of projects on time and to the highest technical standards.

Self-motivated with ability to project manage and prioritize own work.
-
Ability to make quality decisions and judgments, with a logical, yet imaginative approach to problem solving.

Strong people skills, experience in participating in cross functional working groups, to solve problems and get the job done.
Desirable
-
Knowledge of electricity networks, customer connections, regulatory frameworks or grid planning.

Experience building dashboards, databases, intelligence systems or reporting tools. Prior experience in a Network Planning role.

Can perform financial analysis using lifetime cost projections for various connection proposals and network reinforcement proposals.

Experience in coding languages such as SQL, etc.

Published Technical Papers at reputable international conferences.

Active involvement in international engineering organisations such as CIGRÉ, IEEE and IET (e.g. participation in Working Groups)
Qualifications

Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential.

Full Irish Driving Licence.

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary
€71,000 - €84,000 per annum.
