As a Data Scientist at ESB, you will be at the forefront of creating cutting-edge AI and Machine Learning solutions, working to achieve maximum value for our businesses and customers across all of our investments in systems and technologies.
The Data Science Team are responsible for delivering business insight through interpretation of large data sets from our financial, operational, network and customer systems. You will work closely with data engineers, data analysts and product owners to solve business challenges, prioritising, scoping and managing a broad range of data science projects.
This role will involve the building of Data, AI, and Machine Learning products, including, LLM and GenAI products.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and manage data science solutions from inception, through Proof of Concept and into production, using a range of tools and methods.
- Work alongside other data scientists and analysts to utilise your understanding of ML techniques to inform infrastructure choices, considering model types, data selection, hyperparameter tuning, and validation.
- Collaborating with engineering teams to continuously develop, maintain and strengthen our machine learning pipelines.
- Make business recommendations based on the data that drives better business decisions.
- Work alongside business stakeholders as a key point of contact to proactively identify and resolve potential challenges and opportunities.
- Prioritise, scope and manage data science projects and the corresponding key performance indicators (KPIs) for success
- Stays abreast of internal and external developments to identify & implement best practice methodologies to deliver against current and future ESB analytics requirements.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- 3–5 years of technical or business experience applying AI to deliver customer value and generate new revenue
- A master’s or third level qualification in Computer Science / Statistics / Maths or Data Analytics or equivalent work experience is essential
- Strong Programming skills in Python or other analytical language
- Excellent capability in SQL to extract data from databases
- Ability to communicate proposed solutions, requirements and design effectively to our customers and partners.
- Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
- Strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data.
Desirable
- Having domain knowledge in Customer or Engineering fields.
- An external focus and ability to seek ways that ESB can continue to adapt and improve its Data Science practice.
- Proficiency with Azure DevOps
- Production experience training and evaluating ML models with proper pipelines and metrics
- Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
- Above all, you must be innovative in your approach and be able to demonstrate your ability to actively contribute to a team that delivers results.
Location
This position will be based in Head Office, 27 Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary
€57,900 - €68,100
