Digital Strategy & Transformation Lead, CIO
Position Description
We are recruiting a Digital Strategy and Transformation Lead to transform ESB to a digital utility. Successful candidates will work with our business and IT capabilities to identify where digital, and data can help solve the energy industry’s decarbonisation challenge.
This will include:
- Analyse organizational data and value flows to pinpoint high‑impact transformation opportunities and define clear pathways.
- Work at the intersection of strategy, design and technology to drive human‑centred, digitally enabled ways of working.
- Collaborate with business leaders, technology partners and delivery teams to translate strategic intent into achievable transformation.
This position is in the Digital Accelerator which is in the office of the CIO and will work alongside members of the team including Digital Strategy and Transformation Leads for Enterprise Services and CS and for Generation and Trading.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and communicate future‑state operating approaches that improve value delivery, streamline work, and leverage digital, data and automation.
- Develop clear representations for how the organisation can operate in the future, including high-level target operating models, capability overviews, customer journeys and service blueprints.
- Assess end-to-end value streams to determine where digital, data and modern delivery practices can unlock improvements in effectiveness, decision-making and employee or customer experience.
- Facilitate collaborative sessions using design thinking, systems thinking and analytical techniques to help teams explore problems, envision possibilities and co-create solutions.
- Identify and shape transformation opportunities, translating them into structured, prioritised initiatives that can be delivered incrementally and are aligned to organisational outcomes.
- Partner across Enterprise Architecture, Data Analytics, business and IT stakeholders to co‑create future‑state direction, develop technology roadmaps, and ensure alignment on strategic intent and delivery.
- Ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics are established to track the realisation of benefits in line with Business Value Frameworks.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience
- Strong experience shaping or influencing future-state operating models, strategic artefacts or large-scale transformation programmes.
- Proven capability in facilitation and engaging senior stakeholders to align on future direction.
- Experience applying design thinking, systems thinking or other structured methodologies to frame problems and shape solutions.
- Relevant third-level degree or equivalent professional experience
Desirable
- Experience working within complex organisations involving large asset bases, operational domains or regulated environments.
- Exposure to service blueprinting, capability modelling or strategy design frameworks.
- Familiarity with emerging digital and data technologies, including AI-enabled solutions.
- Management & Technology Consulting Experience
- Relevant accreditations (e.g., SAFe Agile, Design Thinking, Product, Strategy, Systems Thinking).
Location
This position will be based in F27, ESB Head Office, Dublin 2.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.
Reporting To
The role reports to the Service Design Manager (ESBN), CIO.

Salary
€71,900 - €84,600 per annum (depending on experience)
