EB Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Manager
Position Description
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and committed SHE professional to contribute to ESB’s safe delivery of Net Zero 2040.

The ESB Group Safety function provides general and specialist occupational safety support to ESB Customer Solutions (CS), Enterprise Services (ES) and Central Business Units.
Given the cross-business unit nature of this position, it will play a pivotal role in providing technical Health and Safety support. The position requires closely liasing with ES, CS and Central business unit management teams, staff and contractors. As a member of the SHE management team, the SHE business unit manager is responsible for the development and implementation of ESB Business Unit (BU) Safety, Health and Environment strategy and plans within their business units.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Align SHE Strategy - Lead the development and implementation of BU Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) strategies in alignment with ESB’s Net Zero and Group SHE goals.
- Drive SHE Compliance and Risk Management - Deliver the SHE compliance framework, coordinate risk management processes, and support ISO audit readiness across the BU.
- Support and Advise Line Management - Provide expert guidance to managers and staff on managing SHE risks and ensuring safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible operations.
- Lead and Develop SHE Team - Manage, mentor, and develop a team of SHE professionals to deliver high-impact support and continuous improvement.
- Monitor, Report and Analyse Performance - Oversee SHE performance metrics, incident investigations, and trend analysis to ensure robust corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Manage Key Programmes and Initiatives - Lead companywide SHE programmes such as Safe & Sound, ensuring effective implementation and integration across all BU activities.
- Evaluate and Improve BU SHE Performance - Assess BU compliance, identify improvement opportunities, and oversee the development and review of BU SHE Improvement Plans.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A Third level qualification in safety, environment, engineering, or equivalent experience is essential.
- Minimum 10+ years’ previous health and safety experience or relevant industry experience.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, risk assessment, and hazard prevention.
- Practical experience in safety management or a related field is crucial.
- Experience in managing people.
- Excellent skills in communication, problem-solving, and leadership.
- Full, clean driver's licence.
Desirable
- Previous experience of culture change programmes or behaviour-based safety initiatives
Location
This position will be based in ESB Head Office, 27 Fitzwilliam, Dublin 2. Regular attendance in ESB Swift Square and other ESB offices will be a feature of the role.
ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least two anchor days per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

This role reports to Group Head of SHE.

Salary
€86,300 - €101,600 per annum (depending on experience)
