About Generation Engineering

 

The Generation Engineering Department within the Engineering and Major Projects Directorate of ESB provide the engineering services for assuring the asset integrity of the ESB generation fleet ranging from BESS, hydro, wind, OCGT, CCGT and coal fired plant. We are also responsible for providing the engineering and technical support required to deliver on the development of new generation and storage assets for ESB and ESBI clients including the development and construction of hydrogen generation, storage and distribution projects.

The Generation Engineering Department consists of nine Specialist Engineering Teams as follows:

 

  • Chemical Services
    • Provision of specialist advice and management for the use of chemicals across ESB along with the management of the water-steam cycle chemistry in thermal plants
  • Control and Instrumentation
    • C&I and automation specialist engineering support to all generation fleet technologies, including cyber security for the operational technology.
  • Electrical Assets
    • Provision of specialist electrical engineering support for all electrical assets such as generators, motors, switchgear, AVRs, battery systems, ATEX etc.
  • Environment
    • Management of emissions licence requirements for the generation fleet along with supporting environmental reporting and management of generation activities
  • Materials Assessment Services
    • Provision of specialist materials engineering support ranging from metallurgical analyses of equipment, welding design, material selection to material inspection.
  • Performance & Test
    • Provision of engineering support for the analysis and testing of thermal plant emissions and for plant operating efficiency
  • Pressure Parts & Renewable Gases
    • Provision of specialist engineering support for all boiler plant (incl. HRSGs) and pressure systems along with specialist support for hydrogen projects
  • Project & Design
    • Provision of engineering support for the development and construction of new generation assets along with design analysis for same and the operating fleet
  • Turbine
    • Provision of specialist engineering support for all turbine assets including gas, steam, hydro and wind turbines.

 

In Generation Engineering, we provide the engineering and chemistry expertise required to:

 

  • Deliver high quality, innovative generation and storage technology to achieve our Net Zero by 2040 Strategy.
  • Maximise efficiency and ensure the integrity of existing plant to maintain Security of Supply.
  • Assess feasibility of lifetime extensions to existing plant to maintain security of supply.
  • Minimise emissions from existing plant.
  • Lead failure investigations, root cause analysis and problem solving.
  • Maintain and develop technical standards for generation assets.
  • Maintain and lead expertise in new technologies in the Power Generation business.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Working as part of this dynamic team, you will always have new challenges and problems to solve – working together is key. You will have the autonomy to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems with the support and collaboration of your colleagues.

 

Essential

  • Gen Eng are seeking candidates with a range of experience but a minimum 2 years' experience will be required. 
  • Third level Engineering qualification..
  • Full driving licence and access to a car.
  • The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Strong technical understanding and capability to make informed judgments.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal, report writing and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a team to a high level of performance.

 

Desirable

  • Commercial and project management experience.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of Irish safety legislation and construction regulations.

 

 

Location

 

Your base will be at one of our office locations: One Dublin Airport Central, Dublin and Eastgate, Cork
