ESB ecars IT & Digital Product Owner
Position Description
Established in 2010, ESB ecars installs, operates, and manages publicly available EV charge point infrastructure in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain providing charging services to all EV drivers. Underpinned by strong policy drivers, the electromobility industry is now growing rapidly with the number of EVs in Europe increasing greatly as EV sales grow exponentially. To cater for future demand, and in line with our 2030 strategy, ESB ecars is focused on scaling its business, primarily through the roll-out of fast and high-power charging infrastructure in all markets, and the provision of a reliable, high-quality charging service to its customers. In addition to expanding its charging networks, ESB ecars aims to be a recognised digital leader in the e-mobility space, through the creation of a best-in-class customer experience.
The ecars IT & Digital product portfolio consists of a range of software-as-a-service based products hosted and developed by an outsourced SaaS provider. The core IT systems include a charge point management system, a billing and tariffing engine, and a revenue management system. Digital & web platforms include the ‘ecar connect’ and ‘EV Plug In’ mobile apps, ecars websites, as well as digital portals for both customers and operations teams. Integrations exist with external systems to facilitate payment processing, customer communication, and to enable EV roaming. A data analytics / reporting solution is also in place.
The IT & Digital Product owner will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the ecars strategic objectives of scaling the business, maximising revenue and continually enhancing the customer experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the IT & Digital product roadmap for selected products in the portfolio, including associated work plans and the definition of requirements. The role will involve working closely with delivery partners, other third-party service providers and internal stakeholders to translate the product roadmap into a prioritised backlog, and to manage its execution into tangible outputs. The role would suit an energetic, curious individual with a functional background, and represents a fantastic opportunity to work in an emerging area at a really exciting time in its evolution.
Key Responsibilities

- Write detailed and compelling user stories that clearly articulate feature requirements, reflect-real world use cases and customer needs, such that they can be effectively estimated, and are understood by outsourced partners and other relevant teams.
- Determine optimal delivery approach (configuration/customisation vs new development), while ensuring compliance with ESB’s Cybersecurity and Cloud policies, regulatory requirements, and e-Mobility standards. Plan and drive feature delivery, managing dependencies and risks, and resolving blockers for timely, cost-effective outcomes.
- Lead testing processes including test case definition, acceptance criteria, and defect resolution. Work with business stakeholders and the wider ecars IT & Digital team to co-ordinate, plan and deploy releases to production.
- Create and maintain comprehensive product documentation, including user guides and release notes.
- Monitor and evaluate performance of assigned products through data insights and feedback to enable continuous iteration and improvement and to optimise value.
