Electrical Engineer
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Professional Electrical Engineer to join the Project & Design Group of Generation Engineering. The successful candidate will support ESB in the delivery of new Generation projects such as the development of new build zero and low carbon generating assets, support existing assets within ESB’s plant portfolio and provide support for consultancy services to International clients.
The Generation Engineering department at ESB Engineering and Major Projects leads engineering for ESB’s generation business. We manage the engineering aspects of new generation developments and provide asset management services to the existing ESB Generation fleet.
We are seeking a Senior Professional Electrical Engineer for our Project & Design Group. The role involves supporting ESB with new zero and low carbon generation projects and maintaining current assets.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lead and manage electrical projects end-to-end, from scoping and design through procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Prepare technical specifications, evaluate tenders, and ensure compliance with Irish / International / ESB standards for quality, safety, and reliability.
- Oversee quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements during construction and commissioning, including reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
- Coordinate engineering inputs across multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective integration of electrical systems with overall project requirements.
- Support team operations through task coordination, mentoring junior engineers, and staying updated on technological advancements.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, manage project budgets and compliance, and contribute to financial and reporting activities.
- Drive continuous improvement by optimising processes, supporting asset management strategies, participating in incident investigations, and delivering training initiatives.
Experience and Qualification
Essential
- Minimum five years’ experience in the electricity sector or similar industry.
- Primary Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 8 NFQ or above) or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Expertise in the design, commissioning, or operation of electrical systems for power generation or process industries.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively and share knowledge within a team.
- Demonstrated project engineering and management skills.
- Effective decision-making and sound judgment capabilities.
- Excellent time management, prioritisation, and computer skills, including MS Office proficiency.
- Thorough understanding of Health, Safety, and Environment standards, with strong communication and report writing abilities and a full clean driving licence.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations on design elements to support technical verification and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineering status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrable evidence of progress towards same is preferred.
- PSDP or PSCS Training / Competency
- Proficient in MS Project
- Familiarity with power system analysis software such as ETAP or equivalent
Location
ESB Engineering and Major Projects, The Sidings, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin or EMP Eastgate. Flexibility is important in this role, which may include travel nationally and internationally.

Salary
€59,000 - €70,000 per annum
