Engineer
We’re seeking an Engineer with at least 5 years’ hands-on experience in complex power-system infrastructure, ideally with high-voltage substations and DC battery systems experience, or comparable large-scale electrical, renewable-energy or industrial-control environments.
In support of ESB’s strategic objectives of decarbonising electricity, empowering customers and building resilient infrastructure, you will enable critical grid continuity through the delivery and maintenance of mobile substation bays, support the safe deployment of compliant DC battery systems, and ensure asset resilience by contributing to standards, repair strategies and lifecycle decision‑making in line with ESB’s Net Zero by 2040 strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver maintenance programmes, asset health strategies and projects to the highest safety and quality standards.
- Provide technical leadership across Project and Maintenance Programme delivery.
- Act as Lead Engineer for complex fault investigations on mobile bays and DC battery systems.
- Monitor emerging technologies, standards and customer requirements to inform continuous improvement.
- Develop, review and maintain technical policies, standards and documentation.
- Contribute to the development of Transmission & Distribution maintenance policies, online monitoring and diagnostics, asset health and lifecycle management strategies.
- Support ongoing substation maintenance research and publish technical papers at recognised international conferences.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Proven delivery of complex HV power infrastructure, substations, large DC battery systems, or similar, meeting the highest safety, compliance and technical standards.
- 3rd‑level Engineering qualification or equivalent work experience.
- Strong project and programme management skills.
- Deep technical knowledge of Transmission & Distribution, DC battery systems, ATEX installations and compliance requirements.
- Proven track record in delivering substation maintenance projects.
- Knowledge of relevant design, health, safety and environmental standards and legislation.
Desirable
- Membership of a recognised professional engineering body.
Location
This is primarily a site‑based role. The reporting base will be at One Dublin Airport Central, Dublin or Eastgate, Little Island, Cork.
