Experience Designer, ITD

Vacancy Number:  29037
Category:  IT - Service Design
Job Type:  Full-time

Position description

We are looking for an Experience Designer to shape clear, inclusive, and trustworthy digital experiences across customer‑facing and internal products. You will work end to end, from discovery through delivery, across traditional interfaces as well as AI‑assisted, screen‑light, and screenless interactions. These may include conversational flows, notifications, automation touchpoints, and system‑driven experiences where the interface is minimal or partially invisible.

You will design within ESB’s multi‑brand design system to deliver consistent and accessible solutions at scale in a large and regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design end to end digital experiences including journeys, flows, high fidelity UI, micro interactions and iterative improvements based on user research and testing.
  • Create high quality design outputs in Figma, including prototypes, interaction specifications and structured documentation that support clear and efficient handover to engineering teams.
  • Contribute to and enhance the ESB design system by using and improving shared tokens, patterns and components to strengthen accessibility, consistency and scalability.
  • Design AI assisted, data driven and screen light or screenless interactions including guided journeys, decision support experiences, conversational flows, notifications and automated system messages that maintain transparency and human control.
  • Embed inclusive design and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA, EN 301 549 and Universal Design I.S. 374:2019) in all design work.
  • Plan, participate in and translate user research and usability testing into actionable insights that inform product direction and improve user experience.
  • Partner closely with product, engineering and delivery teams to clarify scope, manage trade offs, align requirements and support developers with clear design intent and documentation.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum 3-5 years' of experience in UX, Product, or Experience Design, with a portfolio showing clear problem solving and end to end impact.
  • Strong Figma capability for collaborative design, prototyping, component based UI, and system driven workflows.
  • Experience working with design systems, including consuming them, designing within them, or contributing to them.
  • Ability to interpret brand strategy and express it through coherent and accessible product experiences.
  • Practical usability testing experience, from planning or facilitation through to applying insights.
  • Good understanding of accessibility and inclusive design, including keyboard support, screen reader behaviour, contrast, and cognitive load.
  • Exposure to AI enabled or data driven features and designing responsible interactions, including for non-screen or low visibility interfaces.

Desirable

  • Experience in utilities, the public sector or enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with conversational UX.
  • Experience working in regulated or compliance‑driven contexts.

This position will be based in ESB Head Office, 27 Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin.
