Fibre Operations Specialist
Position description
ESB Telecoms Ltd. (ESBT), a wholly owned subsidiary of ESB, develops, operates and maintains a national telecommunications infrastructure and is an independent wholesale provider of telecommunications services in the Irish market. The nationwide Optical fibre network utilises both underground and aerial fibre.
An application is invited for the position of Fibre Operations Specialist within the Fibre Infrastructure Operations team. The successful candidate will report to the Fibre Infrastructure Operations Manager.
Candidates should have a background in the planning, construction and commissioning of fibre networks, with at least 5 years industry experience.
The expansion of the fiber network is an integral part of achieving ESB’s strategic objectives of de-carbonising electricity, building resilient infrastructure and empowering clients, via supporting telecommunication services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and work proactively with fibre customers at an operational level so that their expectations and fibre technical requirements are met in full, as per our contractual obligations.
- Management/Scheduling of 3rd party construction contractors under current framework contracts and budgets, from investment appraisal to construction.
- Ensuring compliance with ESBT OHSAS Safety Practices and assigning responsibility for safe working with staff, contractors, and stakeholders, from project initiation to completion. Assignment of PSDP / PSCS (Project Supervisor Design Process) is also part of the H&S responsibilities of the position.
- Managing and ensuring professional, timely and productive communication with all internal and external stakeholders (ESBN, ESBN NT, County Councils, Vendors, 3rd party suppliers, Public, Landowners) for fibre related work.
- High Level of Technical expertise in the Fibre industry combined with practical problem-solving skills to deliver our customer requirements.
- Provide technical, safety and financial input into tenders, contracts, and procurement on an as required basis.
- Maintain accurate records of the nationwide fibre network, both underground and aerial. Produce network schematics/ work instructions for contractors. Handover packs for customers.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in fibre civil telecoms projects
- Full Irish driving licence is required
- Proficient with using GIS software tools to record fibre build information
- Familiarity with fibre standards & specifications
- Design and engineering knowledge of fibre networks
- Ability to work well within a team and to work on own initiative when required
- Proficient in the use of MS Office & other IT systems
- Strong organisational capabilities
Desirable
- Experience with a fixed line operator or a fibre civils company providing fibre services to fixed line operators
- Fibre Characterisation certification and QA/QC experience of fibre testing and documentation
Location
This position will be based in ESB Swift Square, Santry, Co. Dublin
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary
€59,900 - €70,500 per annum, depending on experience.
