Position Description

 

The Treasury & Group Trading Risk Manager will play a key role, working as part of the Group Treasury team, managing the group’s liquidity position and treasury and trading risks the group is exposed to in line with policies approved by the ESB Board supporting ESB’s NetZero strategy.

 

This position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop/enhance their skills across all areas of Treasury with a specific focus on treasury risk and trading risk solutions.

 

Group Treasury is the centralised treasury function for ESB Group which operates in line with policies approved by the ESB Board supporting ESB’s NetZero strategy. The team has four main priorities:

  • Maintaining ESB’s strong credit rating and strong relationships with debt investors across UK, Europe and US
  • Raising external debt to support ESB’s strategy and investment plans from diverse range of funding sources and ensuring ESB has the optimal internal funding model
  • Ensuring financial stability through strong liquidity management and management of treasury related financial risks on behalf of the group
  • Overseeing trading risk management at a group level

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the ongoing development and enhancement of ESB’s Treasury Risk Management Policies, including frameworks for foreign exchange, interest rate, inflation and cash investment risk.
  • Manage Group liquidity, cash investment, trade finance, banking relationships and treasury service delivery, ensuring robust controls, effective governance and commercially competitive financial solutions.
  • Identify, assess and manage foreign exchange, interest rate and inflation exposures, including the execution of appropriate hedging transactions with international banking counterparties.
  • Provide specialist advice to business units and senior stakeholders on treasury, liquidity and financial risk matters, including in respect of major capital investment projects.
  • Oversee Group energy trading risk exposure and support the continued development of the Group Trading Risk Management Framework.
  • Lead continuous improvement and treasury technology initiatives to enhance efficiency, governance, traceability and the quality of decision-making.
  • Contribute to strategic Treasury initiatives as a member of the wider Group Treasury leadership team.

 

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in one of Ireland’s largest and most complex treasury functions. The successful candidate will gain exposure to liquidity management, financial risk management, trading risk oversight, treasury technology transformation and major strategic investment projects while working closely with senior stakeholders across the ESB Group.  

 

Experience & Qualifications

 

  • Qualified Accountant and/or CFA qualified professional with a minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Demonstrable treasury or banking experience, preferably with a strong financial risk management focus.
  • Strong understanding of the tax, accounting, insurance, treasury and legal considerations relevant to large infrastructure businesses and capital projects.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage senior stakeholders and operate effectively in multi-disciplinary transaction or project environments.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship management capability, including engagement with banking counterparties and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Curious, adaptable and improvement-oriented.
  • Knowledge of energy trading markets considered advantageous.

 

Location

This position will be based in 27 Fitzwilliam Street Lower, Dublin 2.

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.
