Position Description  

 

ESB is a purpose-led company striving to create a brighter future for the customers and communities we serve, leading the transition to reliable, affordable, low-carbon energy.  We are committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2040 and the successful delivery of offshore windfarms by ESB Engineering and Major Projects (EMP) will play a key part in achieving this goal. Project success will depend upon safe delivery and on maintaining high safety and health standards on these important projects.  

 

Reporting directly to the EMP Offshore Safety Manager, the successful candidate will, after a period of acclimatisation and training, be initially seconded onto the Inchcape Offshore Windfarm project. The candidate will work directly on the delivery of this 1 GW offshore windfarm project off the Angus Coast in Scotland, gaining vital experience. On completion of this project the Offshore Wind Safety Specialist will utilise their experience to assist in the safe delivery of ESB’s Irish offshore wind portfolio.

Key Responsibilities  

 

  • Work collaboratively with project management staff, contractors, and all stakeholders to ensure legal, corporate and project safety requirements are implemented in full 

  • Provide assistance in the safety aspects of procurement 

  • Carry out duty holder competency assessments 

  • Carry out detailed audits on contractors to ensure that legislative and corporate standards are being fully implemented on site 

  • Support the Client in discharging its duty holder roles, when required 

  • Ensure that Client Duty Holder responsibilities are fulfilled in accordance with the legislation 

  • Promote a culture of safety awareness with project management staff and contractors working on our projects 

  • Review contractor safety documentation and procedures 

  • Liaise with Contractors on safety issues in the role of Client Safety Advisor 

  • Supervise works 

  • Compile and deliver safety inductions 

  • Participate in project safety leadership teams 

  • Assist in developing safety specifications 

  • Maintain awareness of changes to relevant safety and health legislation and advise management and staff on required changes or actions to address legislative compliance 

  • Compile project statistics and reports back to the SHE Manager and Project Managers on trends 

  • Mentor site team members on auditing and safety leadership 

 

 

Experience and Qualifications  

 

Essential 

 

  • Minimum of 5 years Health & Safety experience within the construction industry 

  • (NFQ) Level 8 Qualification in Health and Safety 

  • Knowledge of Safety and Health legislation, codes of practice and standards 

  • Strong Communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Excellent influencing, leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills  

  • Ability to work on one’s own initiative 

 

Desirable  

 

  • Experience on Windfarm projects, ideally offshore  

  • Knowledge of Marine Legislation 

  • Up to date Offshore Training such as GWO 

  • Good working knowledge of CDM legislation 

  • Environmental experience/qualification 

 

 

Location  

 

This position will be based at ESB’s offices in One Dublin Airport Central, Dublin Airport, Dublin but it will require regular travel. Flexible working arrangements may also be agreed.

Reporting To 

 

The role will report to the Safety Manager Offshore Wind, Generation Projects.

Salary 

 

€55,500 - €65,500 depending on experience.
