Group Risk and Strategy Analyst
The Role
The Group Strategy, Transformation and Risk function within the Strategy, Innovation and Transformation (SIT) Directorate is responsible for reviewing and assessing the emergent business environment, evolving customer needs, identifying potential growth opportunities, and determining ESB’s overall Group Strategy. It is also responsible for managing the Company’s enterprise risk process and ensuring that major risks (and their controls) are identified, monitored, and escalated appropriately through co-ordination of the delivery of the company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process. This includes liaising with Business Units/Directorates, Key Corporate Functions, the Executive Committee (ExCo) to ensure that ESB’s critical enterprise-level risks are appropriately monitored and managed. The Strategic Programme Management Office (SPMO), also within Group Strategy, Transformation and Risk function works closely with the ExCo to play a central role in monitoring delivery and implementation of our Strategy through Strategic Initiatives (SIs) and reporting of Strategic Performance Indicators (SPIs).

It will involve working and collaborating with key stakeholders right across the company and with external stakeholders and vendors. It will give an opportunity to learn more about the strategic direction of ESB and its risk environment.
This role will report to the Group Strategy and Risk Manager.

Key Responsibilities
The Group Risk and Strategy Analyst will work closely with the Group Strategy and Risk Manager / Senior responsibilities Analyst as well as the Strategic PMO manager and team. Key responsibilities include:
- As the principal owner, lead the delivery of individual components of the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management and Strategic Planning processes (e.g. preparing the Quarterly Risk Update Report for the Board Audit and Risk Committee and ExCo, collating Key Risk Indicators and Strategic Performance Indicators on behalf of the ExCo and the Board Audit and Risk Committee (ARC), managing specific work packages within the Group Risk Improvement Program)
- Communicate effectively with key stakeholders and process participants (at all levels within the company) and provide initial support and challenge to BU and function teams on their Risk Registers, participate in the collation and synthesis of bottom up/top-down risks to develop Group Principal and Emerging Risks.
- Design and execute financial, commercial, market, scenario, and other quantitative analysis to develop, inform and recommend alternative strategic courses of action and /or risk appetite for ESB and specific businesses
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert and resource on enterprise risk management and, in that capacity, work to ensure that key risk-related policy documents and templates are kept updated and consistent with external best practice and ESB’s evolving Governance and Regulatory obligations, and deliver training and engagement presentations for process participants
- Develop and critically review quantitative and qualitative indicators of strategic delivery and risk management as part of the review of ESB Strategic Performance Indicators (SPIs) and annual Group Risk Appetite updates on behalf of the Board and ExCo
- Author, with limited supervision, high-quality Risk- and Strategy-related papers/materials/presentations for the Board, ARC, ExCo and for inclusion within external facing publications (e.g. ESB Annual Report)
- Build a strong network and relationships at senior level to support facilitation, negotiation, problem solving and delivery of ERM and Strategy deliverables. Engage, manage, influence and collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders (e.g., outside consultants, ESB Group Internal Audit, ESB risk community – including the Executive Committee (ExCo), senior managers, second line functions, Governance managers etc.)
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Strong Commercial acumen as evidenced by 10+ years’ experience in related roles
- Degree-level qualification in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, ICT, Engineering, or equivalent quantitative field
- Knowledge of formal Risk Management Practices and Methodologies, capable of being a subject matter expert on risk, serving as a key resource to the risk community across ESB
- Strong numerical and problem-solving skills – including an ability to structure and prioritise key analysis from a business perspective.
- Stakeholder, negotiation and teamwork skills, ability to engage and influence at a Senior level
- Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of, and demonstrated interest in strategic planning methodologies and tools
- Good influencing and presentation skills
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills. Ability to produce high quality material
- Highly organised planning and time management skills with excellent attention to detail and ability to successfully under tight timelines.
- Self-motivator and problem solver with excellent communication, facilitation and teamwork skills
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty
Desirable
- Experience of Strategy Management
- Demonstrated interest in the energy industry and energy policy
- Good working knowledge of financial models and quantitative analysis
- Project Management or Risk Management accreditation

Salary
€65,000- €76,000 per annum.
