Position Description

The successful applicant will be appointed to the role of HV Sub-Station Designer. 

They will provide the services in areas of HV station design in a timely and cost-effective manner to facilitate delivery of capital and maintenance projects and programmes. In this role They will provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.

The designer must be able to understand the methodology of station control systems, network operations and protection schemes, safety implications, and have developed detailed knowledge of station HV equipment and its operation.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • The Planning, Scoping & Costing of projects in High voltage SubstationsPreparation of Preliminary health and safety documentation and Design risk assessments.
  • Preparation of detailed Electrical designs, including Layouts, Schematics & Wiring schedules.
  • Comply with safety legislation and act as PSDP contact on projects on behalf of the PSDP
  • Liaising and coordinating with designers in other disciplines  Liaising with external contractors and design teams while maintaining commercial focus
  • Experience with an Electrical Design CAE system such as E-Plan or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Providing technical support throughout the HV substation lifecycle.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years electrical experience or equivalent design work experience is essential
  • Have proficiency and adaptability in a CAD/CAE System such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 

Desirable

  • A Track record in Implementing standards, policies and quality systems to ensure optimum designs
  • Displays a Knowledge of ESB HV network assets – HV Stations
  • Understands and applies relevant approved Quality Management systems and standards
  • Project Management skills

 

Qualifications

  • Advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate OR a suitable Level 7 or higher qualification in Electrical, Electrical Services, Electronics, Mechanical, building Services OR other suitable qualification with a sizeable electrical content

Salary 
€48,000 to €56,000 per annum
