Position Description

This role will require an electrical engineering background with significant experience in project or programme management. This is a people manager role so people management experience is desirable but not essential. Working with many different stakeholders both internal and external is a critical component of managing the different processes such as Low Voltage (LV) planning studies for system improvements and LV generation connections, running tender processes and quality assurance and reporting for the LV System Improvement (SI) programme.

 

The LV planning team, within the Network Development department, is responsible for the strategic development of the low voltage distribution network to enable the Climate Action Plan targets and our Networks for Net Zero Strategy with a particular focus on the areas of electrification of heat and transport; connection of renewables and development of policies and standards. The ESB/CRU Price Review 6 (PR6) programme involves a significant ramp up in the volume and types of work included in the LV System Development programme. 

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Working as a key team member and manager driving and delivering on PR6 LV System Development requirements, the following is a non-exhaustive list of tasks the LV SI Coordinator and Allowance Quality Assurance Lead will:

 

  • Directly support the LV System Development Allowance Manager in all aspects of championing the delivery of designs and construction work for LV reinforcement, through logistics and hands-on working with work programming teams (design delivery as well as construction crew availability), supply chain (materials), outage coordinators etc.
  • With respect to the LV proactive programme, oversee the planning studies for proactive programmable LV reinforcement and identify opportunities to better prioritise the programme of work for delivery.  Ensure the work is packaged for seamless hand-off to Design Teams and aligned with the annual work programme.
  • Work with the LV System Development Allowance Manager to coordinate and deliver on all reporting metrics associated with the LV System Development Allowance, with focus areas of System Improvement work, LV design Quality Assurance and risk management.
  • Responsible for developing, managing and scheduling Quality Assurance audits as well as additional support audits with the Design Delivery Assurance Specialists and the LV Design Standards Lead.
  • Manage the LV Planning technical studies and interaction with the commercial team as part of the generation connection processes.
  • Stand up a new PR6 work programme to unloop services using information gathered from the pilot programme to prepare a tender for a full contractor framework to deliver this work programme.
  • Lead all aspects of embedding the process, system and people changes required to improve the overall customer experience when a service cable needs to be unlooped.
  • Author internal and external technical articles, reports and presentation of the work ESB Networks is doing to accommodate electrification at external webinars and seminars, supporting the demonstration to policy makers, senior management and staff that ESB Networks is successfully working to enable electrification.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential

 

  • 7 to 10 years relevant experience is essential.
  • Demonstrable substantive project delivery experience and a strong knowledge of project management methodologies.
  • Self-motivated with ability to plan and communicate requirements to progress new initiatives, and a track record of delivering of work/and or projects, with the ability to delegate and assign work to others to ensure on time completion of work in line with priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, experience leading cross functional initiatives, to solve problems and get the job done.
  • Strong technical background and understanding, capable of informed judgements / contributing to alternatives discussions and decision making, to support and facilitate the prioritised electrification areas progressing.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, both internal and external.
  • Extensive experience in creating technical documentation, report writing and communication to varied audiences.

 

Desirable

 

  • An understanding of ESB Networks business, structure, processes and commercial operating model.
  • Knowledge of and experience in procuring tools and/or materials including specification writing and the associated tender process.
  • Knowledge of PR5/PR6 programmes and company direction, CRU, industry, including government policies and Climate Action Plan.
  • Familiarity with using business systems and tools i.e. SAP and GIS tools.
  • Experience in risk management; the identification, assessment, mitigation, tracking, control and management of project risks.

 

 

Qualification

 

  • A primary degree in Electrical Engineering.

 

 

Location

 

Flexible. There will be a requirement to attend regular meetings with other team members and stakeholders who are primarily based in Portlaoise, Dublin and Cork.

Salary

 

€71,000 to €84,000 per annum
