Material Assessment Services - Specialist Lead - Band 6
Position description
Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering delivery within ESB.
The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering for ESB’s generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients.
We currently have an opportunity for a Specialist to join our Generation Engineering team. The successful candidate will support ESB in the delivery of Generation projects (Thermal, Renewables & Distributed Generation) in both new build and the existing plant portfolio and will also support the ESB International business.
Key Responsibilities

Leading and delivering power plant integrity assessments including assessment of defective power plant components – low and high temperature (e.g. failure investigation, Root cause analysis, reverse code calculation, fracture mechanics, finite element analysis).

Developing risk-based inspection strategies and assessing inspection results, i.e. making run / repair / replace decisions

Providing technical support and advice, including producing formal technical reports

Legislative compliance e.g. PSSR.

Power plant inspection (e.g. steam and water pressure parts, boiler tube surveys, support surveys), with an understanding of materials selection, damage/degradation mechanisms and life assessment.

Knowledge of power plant mechanical engineering, operations and maintenance.

Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of standards, legislation and good practice.
In addition, you will have excellent organisational, problem solving, communication and report writing skills.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
-
Degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, Metallurgy or engineering materials.

Minimum of 7 years of working on industrial power plant and large machinery.

Full Irish (compatible) driving licence

Be an excellent communicator, written and verbal.
Desirable
-
Welding qualification and a strong knowledge of non-destructive and metallurgical inspection techniques based on first-hand field experience.

Readiness and proven ability to be ‘hands-on’ in relation to failure investigation and metallurgical preparation.

Be willing to work on-site for long periods and unsociable hours.

Work in teams in a collaborative manner but also be willing be solely responsible for decisions made.

Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration is desirable.
Location
This position will be based in EMP offices Eastgate, Cork.

Salary
€69,000 - €81,000 per annum
