Position Description 

The role of the Meter Technologist is to contribute to the design/maintenance and refurbishment to metering arrangements through the use of their in-depth knowledge and experience.

This role will apply to all LV, MV and HV customer metering including IPP and Demand customer solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage the development of metering solutions for large customer connections and lead the development of new connection methodologies for Metering.
  • Provide Quality Assurance on Metering connections and commissioning of metering.
  • Ensure ongoing policy compliance for Metering in line with directives from CER/ESBN/EU.
  • Contribute to the design/review of Metering solutions.
  • Review technical schematics and documentation for Metering.
  • Maintain knowledge and specialist skills in metering.
  • Support the business in troubleshooting issues in complex metering arrangements and develop standardised solutions.
  • Input and coordinate the Metering Assets risk register.
  • Develop and build strong business relations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the development and influence policies and procedures for Metering Assets.
  • Preparation of standards, instructions and input to procedures and technically evaluate equipment to comply with existing standards and policies.
  • Assist in development of technical training courses in conjunction with NTC.
  • Review and develop new policies in the areas of commissioning, testing and certification of metering installations with the advent of new technologies and connection methods.
  • Support Development of Specifications and Frameworks for Metering and support evaluation and make technical recommendations.
  • Support Metering Project work and co-ordination of metering work programmes.
  • Develop Metering approach to new type connections and lead engagement across ESB to support development of metering solutions.
  • Ensure the processes & controls are in place to meet Corporate Governance requirements including environmental issues.
  • Support metering NT’s and Deployment contractors on technical issues for both Smart and Non-Smart meter installations. 

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

Either an Electrical Craft Certificate, Third Level Qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.

  • Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
  • Team player with proven ability to work within team.
  • Facilitate and support others across the team and contribute positively to the development of the team and self. 
  • The ability to accept responsibility and be able to show a high level of commitment, flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • PC Skills – MS Word/Outlook/Excel.
  • The candidate will possess competence in the area of commissioning and Metering fault investigation.
  • Experience in Metering and/or MV/HV Stations.

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Revenue Metering principles, Metering devices and associated software applications.
  • Familiarity with key ESBN business systems.
  • Familiarity with ESBN technical & safety related policies/ procedures
  • ESB Procurement procedures & guidelines
  • Asset Management Principles

 

Location

The location is flexible.

 

Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful  candidate may work flexibly within the  jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary

€49,000 - €58,000 per annum.
