Offshore Cable Engineer
The successful candidate will be an experienced submarine cables engineer who will support the delivery of the Cables package for the offshore export cable and inter-array cable systems for windfarm projects. There will be a particular in the Transport and Installation (T&I) aspects of cable projects in this role. They will work as part of the team to ensure that all technical and commercial elements of the cables packages of the project and interactions with technical advisors/suppliers are managed efficiently, to best industry standards, safely and within budget. The candidate will also be responsible for managing and coordinating the tendering and clarification phase of both export and inter array cables. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, innovative, commercially driven and have a track record of successfully delivering technical design/construction projects and initiatives within ESB.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will cover the items below:
- Play a lead role in the Submarine Cable related activities for major projects at various stages of the project development cycle.
- Provision of technical and commercial input into all aspects of the submarine cable manufacturing and installation contracts, including preparation of Employer’s Requirements, technical documentation and specifications and tender evaluation.
- Design reviews of contractor cable system designs and installation methodologies with respect to the Employer's Requirements.
- Oversee concept refinement and FEED phases of the project.
- Interface management, cable system engineering, route engineering and technical support during cable installation, jointing, testing and commissioning.
- Review offshore survey data and provide inputs to the Project Team's overall scrutiny of the contractor's cable burial assessments.
- Ensure compliance with HSE requirements and ensure that all cable related risks are continually assessed, reported and managed in line with the project governance systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience
- Experience in the development of specifications and employers’ requirements for major submarine cable projects procurement, installation and testing
- Experience in subsea surveys and engineering, submarine cable laying and burial campaigns, cable embedment, submersible vehicle operations, vessel positioning and commercial diving procedures.
- Experience in technical and commercial evaluation of submarine cable packages.
- Proficient in H&S standards for submarine cable projects.
- Strong stakeholder management capability and good communication skills
- Strong project and programme management capability
Qualifications
Essential
- 3rd level qualification in engineering or equivalent work experience is required.
Desirable
- Project Management Qualification
- Technical design certification processes
Location
ESB Engineering & Major Projects, One Dublin Airport Central, Dublin Airport, Co. Dublin. The office location will change to a new location in Dublin city centre in early 2026 at The Sidings, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 2.

Salary
€71,000 to €84,000 per annum
