Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering delivery within ESB.

The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering for ESB’s generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for internal, external, and international clients.

We have an opening for a Senior Project Mechanical Engineer in Generation Engineering's Projects & Design Team. The successful candidate will support ESB in the delivery of new power generation projects such as the development of new build low carbon generating assets, support existing assets within ESB’s plant portfolio and provide support for consultancy services for international clients.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and be responsible for the engineering elements for the successful delivery of multiple asset development and asset management projects including new build Open Cycle Gas Turbine projects
  • Manage projects from inception, specification, procurement, design review, installation, commissioning, and handover including:
    • Complete the role of PDSP on assigned projects.
    • Development of project programmes.
    • Monitoring contractor progress and commissioning schedules.
    • Producing comprehensive and accurate monthly progress reports.
    • Manage project interfaces such as Procurement, Design, Planning, Grid and Gas Connections etc.
    • Ensuring that plant and equipment complies with the relevant standards, codes of practice, internal standards
  • Providing leadership through:
    • Effective delegation of duties to team members.
    • Apply a high level of safety standards in every aspect of the work.
    • Manage and develop a team of project engineers.
    • Ensuring that designing for safety philosophy is included through all aspects of project design
  • Support the Project Manager(s) by taking direct responsibility of managing key elements of the projects.
  • Perform the Lead Technical role in tending and procurement by:
    • Leading the coordination of technical specifications, schedules, price schedules, against which tenderers will submit proposals.
    • Leading the technical review and evaluation of tenders and production of tender evaluation reports.
    • Participate in negotiations with tenders to achieve the best outcome for ESB.
  • Support and lead engagement on technical issues with key internal and external stakeholders such as:
    • Internal: Technical Specialists, Project Managers, Project Directors, Relevant Station Staff, Project Engineering teams, Senior Management and others.
    • External: OEMs, Contractors, GNI, HSA, Irish Water, Eirgrid, EPA, and others.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Proven track record of significant experience in the power generation industry. A minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical equipment utilised in power generation projects with a proven track record in delivering complex engineering projects and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures along with PSDP and PSCS processes.
  • Ability to work individually or within a team and to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.
  • Self-motivated and ability to project-manage own work and coordinate those working with him/her with experience managing people and teams.
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility, which is important in all aspects of the role, including travel nationally and internationally.

 

Qualifications 

Essential

  • Engineer level 8 qualification in Mechanical Engineering (Level 8 NFQ) or related discipline or equivalent work experience

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrate evidence of progression towards same.

 

Location

The position is based at either Dublin or Eastgate Office bases and will involve occasional travel. Tailored working arrangements will be considered with the operational requirements of the role and in alignment with the ESB SMART Working model and Team Charter. 

Based in ESB Engineering and Major Projects Head Office, Dublin, Ireland.

Domestic and International travel may be a feature of this role

Salary

€69,000 - €81,000 per annum
