Professional Engineer, Civil and Structural
Engineering & Major Projects (EMP) is responsible for the efficient delivery of major projects and engineering solutions required by ESB and its customers to lead the transition to reliable, affordable, low carbon energy at home and internationally.
The Generation Engineering Civil and Environmental Group within Engineering & Major Projects (EMP) provides the full range of planning, design, construction, operation & maintenance and management services required for electricity industry infrastructure projects in Ireland and overseas.
Position description
A vacancy now exists for a Civil/Structural engineer to work on projects as part of multidisciplinary engineering project teams. The successful candidate will be involved in the delivery of civil engineering services from feasibility through construction stage across a wide range of electricity infrastructure projects for ESB. The portfolio of work will include both new build projects, remedial works to existing structures and the inspection and monitoring of various other assets both in Ireland and abroad. The portfolio will encompass buildings, power stations, electrical infrastructure, and large macro-infrastructure such as dams. It involves the provision of technical engineering services in the delivery of project works packages and advising on appropriate engineering solutions for various aspects of projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in the delivery of many interesting civil and structural projects which ESB have in the delivery of its program to transition to Net Zero Carbon by 2040.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare civil and structural designs to Eurocodes and all relevant other specification requirements
- Carry out design risk assessments
- Prepare material specifications and developing of standard designs and drawings.
- Carry out quality assurance/quality inspections on construction sites to confirm compliance with specification
- Evaluate tenders from a technical perspective
- Manage costs, quality and programmes during design and construction
- Ensure all planning permission and licensing conditions are complied with as part of the design process and during project delivery.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team in a proactive way to deliver quality and commercially viable projects and management of stakeholders.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
The candidate must have:
- Level 8 Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification and minimum 3 years’ relevant post-qualification experience
- Developed a high level of specialist expertise, including a strong technical capability across the civil/structural engineering sector.
- Proven record of being results driven and customer oriented.
- The ability to identify project work requirements and to initiate, plan and implement required scope work items, with limited oversight.
- Proven ability in Management of Internal and External Stakeholders.
- A proven track record in delivering quality projects with an understanding of all elements of development and construction
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
Desirable
- Minimum of 3 years relevant post-qualification experience
- Strong awareness of health and safety legislation to support the ESB Safety Culture
- An innovative approach to problem solving
- Strong technical knowledge and ability to write technical reports
- Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to prioritise with excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and to strict deadlines.
Location
This position is based in EMP Offices at The Sidings Building, Dublin 2 or Eastgate, Little Island but travel to project locations is a key requirement of the role.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary
€49,000 - €58,000 Per Annum
