Join our dedicated Power System Studies (PSS) teams in the Network System Services (NSS) Group. We are a key part of the Transmission and Distribution Engineering (TDE) business with a dedicated group of about twenty engineers and consultants providing specialised power system modelling and analysis services to clients in Ireland and overseas, typically involving computer modelling and simulation of various aspects of electrical power systems.

The main services provided by PSS Teams include:

  • Development of practical solutions for clients based on power system analysis (power flow, short-circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transients, power quality studies, etc.).
  • Protection relay setting services for utility and industrial clients worldwide.
  • Substation earth grid design and testing services for a range of utility and industrial clients.

Key Responsibilities

 

The role of the power system studies engineer is to manage and carry out a range of technical power system studies, and assist with training, development and innovation.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Carrying out and documenting technical studies such as power flow, short-circuit, transient stability studies, protection relay settings and other technical studies.
  • Understanding the technical, commercial, and financial nature of the power system studies projects and being able to direct and manage coordination of same with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Meeting requirements for project safety, quality, programme and budget, and monitoring projects from the initial contact through to final delivery.
  • Flexibility is important in all aspects of the role, including travel nationally and internationally

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

 

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience
  • Strong technical capability.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills, with experience of presenting and communicating complex topics to a wide range of audiences.
  • Self-motivated with ability to project manage and prioritise own work.
  • Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.
  • Ability to make quality decisions and judgement, with a logical, yet imaginative and innovative approach to problem solving.

 

Desirable

 

  • Proven track record of project management / co-ordination, delivery of projects on time and to the highest technical standards.
  • Proven track record of success contributing to the training and development of technical professionals.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  • Either level 8 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential

 

 

Location

 

This role is based in either E&MP Dublin/ Cork offices but travel to project locations as required is a key requirement of the role.

Reporting to one of the Power System Studies Team Leader, Network System Services, Transmission & Distribution Engineering

 

A reserve list will be held for 6 months in which you will be placed if you are suitable for the role.
