Professional Engineer - Network Verifier
Position Description
The Operational Technology Delivery (OT Delivery) team is part of Operations Solutions Delivery (OSD) pillar of the newly established DMSO (Distribution Markets & System Operation). OSD is responsible for providing the technology, processes and resource capability to support and enable the successful delivery of advanced distribution management system (ADMS) services, in line with the new Climate Action Plan (CAP) targets.
In support of this, the role of the OT Delivery workstream is to:
- Take forward the implementation of Pilots, New Propositions, Interim Operational Technology & Enduring Technical Business Capabilities designed under the DMSO Design Pillar
- Once delivery is complete, transition these elements for work into the wider ESB Business whether that’s to within the wider DMSO organisation (including Flexibility Operations, Network Operations, Operation Systems) or other team(s).
As a network verifier you will be at the forefront of utilising existing data and capabilities across DMSO to help drive forward new technology for the business which is key not only for our flexibility and climate action targets but also the security of the reliability of network systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with core operational technology systems within OSD to source, understand, and utilise:

- Network data from GIS
- Load/customer data from SAP
- Microgeneration data
- Load profiles from RMDS
- Weather data
- Work with software providers to ensure the transition of data either from Workbook or Apex or both to NMS goes smoothly.
- Run power flow studies to test the accuracy of the system output against recorded measurements
- Analyse load flow results regularly to identify areas for improvement and to troubleshoot/resolve any issues identified.
- Collaborate with data analytics teams within ESB Networks.
- Process improvement – identifying areas for enhancement and working with the business to implement required changes.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A primary Engineering degree or equivalent work experience.
- They must have a good knowledge of power systems (including network and system characteristics and parameters).
- Essential capabilities and experience include:
- Good interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Good presentation, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work on their own initiative, taking ownership of work/projects
Desirable
- Data analytics capability
- Familiarity with operational technology systems within ESB Networks
- Experience handling large quantities of data using Excel, writing queries to Oracle DB, and creating reports with KPIs for stakeholder review
- Experience of modelling power systems and undertaking load flow analysis
Location
Flexible with minimum one/two anchor days a week in Dublin, Leopardstown. ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in‑person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary
€49,000 to €56,00 per annum
