Project Engineer (Cables Specialist)
Join our dedicated team where we provide project development, construction, commissioning and handover of major projects to Network Assets and provide engineering services to ESB Networks.
Current vacancies include experienced Project Engineer – Cable Specialist Lead
The team specialises in:
- Project delivery post receipt of Capital Approval through to asset handover to Networks.
- All aspects of the major projects/programmes they are tasked to deliver including energisation dates, resourcing, materials, quality, safety, commercial management and realization of the business cases.
- Providing assurance that contractors deliver on their contractual commitments and work in close partnership with Networks & Design in the delivery of these major Projects.
- Ensuring that there is a consistent and repeatable approach to major projects to ensure the best outcome for ESB.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the various Project Manager’s to successfully deliver High Voltage cable project works applying a high level of safety standards in all aspects of work
- Supporting the tender process across all teams and provide specialist support to project teams at design and constructability reviews
- Construction Management – Lead out on cable delivery to the highest standard across full portfolio including key focus on quality assurance across cable and jointing materials, material handling, jointer training, installation methodology and commissioning
- Monitoring and managing contractors’ construction and commissioning schedules with a key focus on cable material, jointing, cable resourcing across these projects.
- Management of project interfaces such as ESB Telecoms, ESBN HV Cables Team and ESBN Commissioning Team
- Close co-operation with Asset Management to ensure smooth handover of cable projects from a quality perspective
- Build relationships with relevant key stakeholders across ESB, contractors, suppliers and other relevant external agencies
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Seven or more years’ experience in the Underground cable electricity industry.
- Proven ability to deliver on the “key responsibilities” outlined above.
- Experience of dealing with construction contractors to ensure that they deliver to specified cable requirements.
- Strong understanding of requirements for working in live substations
- The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent understanding of key cabling elements of projects and ability to plan ahead for future major projects.
- Self-starter with ability to manage own work and support others within project teams.
- Hold a full driving license and have access to a car.
- Strong Safety awareness and competency
- Flexibility to travel nationwide
Desirable
- Excellent understanding of key elements of High Voltage (HV) Cable design, jointing and Commissioning.
- Construction experience across a wide range of high voltage cable projects,
- Previous HV cable jointing experience
Qualifications
Essential
- Level 8 Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience is essential in the HV cable field
Desirable
- Previous HV jointing qualification/approval
Location
Our offices are situated at One Dublin Airport Central for this role.

Salary
€66,000 to €78,000 per annum
