Project Manager, Smart Energy Services
Position Description
We are seeking a Project Manager to join our Project Delivery team to support delivery of key projects for our clients. This is an exciting, broad ranging and dynamic role. The successful applicant will be part of our team responsible for developing and managing new customer proposition delivery to our growing customer client base in Ireland and UK. The role will entail working with our team of engineers, external designers/suppliers, our Customer Solutions Managers and their customers to advise on the design, installation and maintenance of cost-effective and energy efficient systems for building services including Lighting, EV Fleet solutions, Heating & Cooling systems, Battery Storage, Onsite Renewables, Building Management Systems, and Energy Efficiency projects.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong safety culture and bring strong technical skills to the design and delivery of energy solutions. This role will report to the Project Delivery Manager, Smart Energy Services, and will be based in Dublin. The successful candidate will also spend time working on client sites across Ireland and UK. Some international travel may be required on occasion. Smart working arrangements will apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion and uphold ESB’s strong safety culture across all project activities.
- Take full ownership of the delivery phase upon contract award, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Plan and manage all aspects of project delivery from contract signature through to final handover, in close cooperation with clients and contractors.
- Oversee and coordinate contractors delivering small to large-scale projects across multiple client sites.
- Monitor project progress to ensure alignment with agreed timelines, budgets, and performance milestones.
- Review and report on the quality of work delivered by external contractors, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Conduct safety, environmental, and quality audits, and compile snag lists to ensure project completion standards are met.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Promote and lead the safety management culture across all activities by taking ownership and demonstrating visible commitment to safety and provide leadership in promoting a quality culture within the team and in SES
- Participate in or manage strategic projects on several sites simultaneously.
- Manage subcontractors
- Work closely and offer project delivery support to the Engineering, Sales and Commercial departments in SES
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Third level qualification or equivalent work experience
- Qualification in Project Management or Engineering related discipline
- At least 3-5 years' experience in project implementation
- An ability to manage and deliver energy services to public and private sector customers
- Understanding & knowledge of energy management, energy efficiency and distributed generation technologies and the implementation of same
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
- Project Management & Delivery including contractor management
Desirable
The following criteria would be considered an advantage to the successful candidate:
- Experience or Knowledge of facility and/or Asset management, Operation and Maintenance
- PMP / Prince 2 Qualification
- Working knowledge of some of the industry standard forms of contract e.g FIDIC, NEC Etc.
- ISO 50001 implementation and SI 426 Auditing experience
- Knowledge of project support opportunities e.g. EXCEED, SSRH, Climate Action Fund Etc.
Location
The successful candidate will be based in Dublin but will also spend time working on client sites across Ireland and UK. Some international travel may be required from time to time.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least two anchor days per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

Salary
€57,500 - €68,000 per annum depending on experience.
