Project Site Manager
The Networks & Civil, Environmental Engineering Department (NCEE) within Engineering and Major Projects provides a range of planning, design, construction, operation & maintenance, and management services required for electricity industry infrastructure projects in Ireland
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager to join our Site Construction Support Team within Networks Civil & Environmental Engineering (NCEE). This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of civil works during the Construction phase of Networks Engineering projects.
The Project Manager will be primarily responsible for overseeing the operations and management of our sub-station construction projects on site in various locations in Ireland, including major new sub-station builds and upgrades within existing sub-stations. This role, working as the Engineer within the Contract, requires ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance as well as commercial and contract adherence. You will play a key role in maintaining safety standards, driving efficiency, and ensuring compliance with ESB’s engineering and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manage, monitor and supervise all on-site activities of our civil works contractors, especially for sub-station construction projects.
- Administer the Contracts for civil contractors on site, including corresponding with the Contractor in relation to all site issues.
- Ensure strong compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and specific ESB requirements.
- Monitor project progress and prepare regular reports for the EMP Networks Projects management teams.
- Coordinate with EMP Networks projects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
- Undertake Quality Assurance documentation and Site Inspection Test Plan reviews, audits and checks of the civil works on the site throughout the construction period.
- Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise on-site promptly and effectively in collaboration with other project team members.
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, including daily logs, inspections, and incident reports.
- Lead the assessment and resolution of Contractor’s claims and commercial risks, working with the Cost Specialist, with full adherence to Contract Conditions
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Minimum of seven years post-graduate experience.
- Good understanding on the scoping, planning, design and construction phases of project work.
- Strong working knowledge of FIDIC Contracts and the administration of Contracts in this form.
- Strong delivery and solution focus, in a commercially driven environment.
- Strong capability in assessing, communicating and managing project critical risks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work on one’s own initiative while also collaborating strongly within a team
- The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent Stakeholder Management service.
- Experience in successfully managing contractors in their delivery of construction projects.
- Self-motivation and ability to project-manage own work and coordinate with those working alongside.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Full drivers’ licence valid for use in Republic of Ireland.
Desirable
- Experience in Civil Engineering / Utility project contracts in excess of €10m in contract value would be advantageous.
- Chartered status in a recognised professional institution.
- Recent Experience in managing a team.
Qualifications
Essential
- A recognised level 8 degree in civil/structural Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Location
This role is based in EMP Dublin or Cork office but travel to and working at various project locations as required, is a key requirement of the role.

The successful candidate may combine working from home within the Republic of Ireland, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, the frequency of which is agreed with the manager and may change as we learn about hybrid working. Site visits is also a feature of this role which will require a certain amount of travel within Ireland.

Salary
€71,000 - €84,000 per annum
