Position Description

ESB Trading is the trading business within ESB Generation and Wholesale Markets which operates within the I-SEM, BETTA and Commodity Markets and interfaces with the Production and Asset Management areas as well as the Business Customers group in Electric Ireland. The Trading group is responsible for developing and implementing innovative trading, settlement and risk management processes which enable the business to respond successfully to the challenges and opportunities of the markets we operate within.

 

The Great  Britain Prompt Trading desk manager has responsibility for all trading and operational activity in power and gas markets in the prompt trading horizon for all ESB assets in Great Britain markets. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Great Britain Prompt Trading team acts in a proactive manner in power and gas markets to continually seek to optimise trading positions in the Day Ahead and Within Day markets.
  • Developing a comprehensive Prompt Trading Strategy for all current Great Britain assets including the thermal and wind portfolio and ensure that ensure that new Great Britain assets are properly incorporated into the strategy as they come on stream.
  • Line Management Responsibility for the 24/7 Great Britain shift trading team. This includes ensuring that adequate succession assurance measures are in place and that all staff remain fully trained.
  • Managing interface with Prompt Analytics team and the Modelling team to develop in depth in depth competitor and market intelligence analysis to inform trading strategies.
  • Maintaining and developing prompt trading systems and processes to ensure that commercial opportunities can be fully exploited and that operational risk is managed in a robust manner.
  • Attending Industry Operational and Regulatory Fora and liaising with Great Britain Regulatory team to lobby for market developments that optimise ESB Great Britain position.
  • Engaging with the wider Generation and Trading team to ensure that potential new investment opportunities are properly assessed from Prompt perspective.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • 7+ years relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience of Great Britain Energy Markets and a deep understanding of Prompt Trading and Operations.
  • Ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of the economic dispatch of power stations and drivers of the Great Britain power and gas markets.
  • Organisational and leadership qualities and be able to develop a vision as to how the Great Britain Prompt Trading team will operate effectively.
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent communication and reporting skills.

 

Qualifications

  • 3rd level qualification in suitable Business, Science or Engineering degree, or equivalent, or equivalent work experience is required.

ESB Head Office Fitzwilliam 27, Dublin.

Salary

€69,000- €81,000 per annum.
