Position Description 

ESB Networks is responsible for the operation, maintenance and construction of the electricity network.  We are seeking dynamic highly skilled people to join the company to help deliver work programmes as part of our Brighter Futures Strategy. 

  

We are now recruiting Qualified Electricians to join our: 

  • HV Stations Construction and Maintenance Teams 
  • HV/MV/LV Operations teams
  • HV, MV and LV Network Construction both Underground and Overhead 

   

Key Responsibilities 

Full range of duties include: 

  • Work across all voltages. 
  • HV and MV substation construction, maintenance & repair. 
  • Operation of HV, MV and LV 
  • Work with live equipment and Live Work Procedures. 
  • On Call and Standby duties 
  • LV and MV metering duties 
  • Construction and Maintenance of Underground and Overhead Electricity Networks.  
  • Climbing of Poles and Masts. 
  • Maintain knowledge and skills, complete all work safely and actively engage with all safety initiatives. 
  • Work in accordance with agreed guidelines, policies and procedures 
  • To have or develop the relevant technical, organisational and practical skills to enable you to set out jobs from drawings and work specifications, requisition the necessary materials, and to carry out the broad range of Network Technician duties in your work area without detailed supervision and in an efficient and economical manner. 
  • Be courteous in dealing with Customers, Members of the Public or any 3rd parties encountered as part of your job, ensuring excellent customer service. 
  • Take charge of sites / crews / jobs, work co-operatively within teams and to contribute positively to the development of team & self. 
  • Engage with your supervisor/manager in terms of your on-going development and performance. 
  • Work safely at all times – in a way that minimises risk whether in office or on site. 
  • Work in accordance with agreed guidelines, policies and procedures 
  • Seek to continuously improve work methods.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential 

  • HV, MV and LV System operations duties. 
  • Worked for an electrical utility or otherwise have experience constructing, operating or maintaining High or Medium Voltage systems.  
  • Experience of working in HV and MV Station construction, maintenance and repair -  please make specific reference to this in your application/CV.  
  • Underground / Overhead work in connection with the construction, reinforcement, alteration, replacement and repair of electricity distribution network assets from LV up to HV. 
  • Location and identification of underground cables. 
  • 2+ years post qualification experience.
  • Full clean driving licence 
  • QQI Advanced Level 6 Electrical Trade Certificate  

OR 

  • NVQ Level 4 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland 

OR 

  • SVQ Level 3 or higher on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework 

OR

  • Equivalent which is recognised by SOLAS.

Selection 

As part of the selection process, candidates will be required to undergo and satisfactorily complete a pre-employment medical assessment. This assessment includes, but is not limited to, a maximum weight limit of 130kg necessitated by the safe operating limits of safety harness equipment, a colour vision assessment, and an intoxicant screening test.
