Position Description

 

ESB Networks is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and construction of the electricity network. We are seeking dynamic, highly skilled individuals to join the company and help deliver work programmes as part of our Net Zero by 2040 Strategy. 

 

We are now recruiting Qualified Electricians to join our:

 

  • High Voltage Stations Construction and Maintenance Teams
  • High Voltage/ Medium Voltage/ Low Voltage Operations Teams
  • High Voltage, Medium Voltage, and Low Voltage Network Construction (Underground and Overhead)

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Work across all voltage levels: High Voltage (HV), Medium Voltage (MV), and Low Voltage (LV)
  • Construct, maintain, and repair HV and MV substations
  • Operate HV, MV, and LV systems safely and competently
  • Perform work on live equipment in accordance with Live Work Procedures
  • Participate in On Call and Standby duties
  • Carry out LV and MV metering tasks
  • Construct and maintain both underground and overhead electricity networks
  • Climb poles and masts as part of overhead line work
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge and skills to perform duties safely and effectively
  • Adhere to all safety initiatives, policies, procedures, and agreed guidelines
  • Interpret job drawings and specifications, requisition materials, and complete tasks efficiently and independently
  • Deliver excellent customer service when interacting with customers, the public, and third parties
  • Lead crews or take charge of sites and jobs when required
  • Work cooperatively within teams and contribute positively to team development
  • Engage with your supervisor or manager regarding your ongoing development and performance
  • Continuously seek to improve work methods and contribute to operational efficiency
  • Share knowledge and skills openly with team members and support others in achieving team goals
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to change

 

Experience and Qualifications

Essential Criteria

 

  • QQI Advanced Level 6 Electrical Trade Certificate OR equivalent qualifications recognised by SOLAS (e.g., NVQ Level 4 or higher, SVQ Level 3 or higher)
  • Full clean, Category B, Driving Licence
  • Ability to locate and identify underground cables
  • Comfortable with working from heights

 

Desirable

 

  • Safe Pass certification
  • Manual Handling and Basic First Aid training
  • Relevant work approvals
  • Experience with HV, MV, LV system operations, station construction, maintenance and repair
  • Experience working for an electrical utility or in constructing, operating, or maintaining High or Medium Voltage systems
  • Experience with underground and overhead work related to construction, reinforcement, alteration, replacement, and repair of electricity distribution network assets from LV up to HV
  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience
