SCADA Engineer Renewables, ESB Renewables O&M
ESB Renewables O&M is a division within ESB Generation and Trading with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB’s large fleet of windfarms, BESS sites, Flex gen, Synchronous Condenser and rapidly increasing Solar sites across ROI, NI, England and Wales. As part of delivery of the corporate strategy ESB are currently expanding its portfolio of windfarms, with a long-term target of 1600MW of wind. ESB Renewables O&M has a SCADA Engineer vacancy for the on-going maintenance and extension of the SCADA and communications systems.

Due to the distributed nature of our assets and inherent automation of their operation, SCADA systems are a critical infrastructure for management of the renewables portfolio. The business is dependent on SCADA in a number of key areas, including:
- Efficient operation and day to day requirements, including resolution of technical issues.
- Delivery of reliable real-time information required to support iSEM and Trading.
- Grid Code compliance support and associated monitoring.
- Maintenance of the state of compliance of the system with NIS directive
- Ongoing requirement to specify and interface new generation technology being added to the portfolio.
- Maintain system availability from a SCADA or communications point of view.
- Evaluate and implement system improvements.
- Provide support to site staff for general IT, SCADA or telecoms queries.
Key Responsibilities
Duties of the role includes but may not be limited to:
- Optimisation of technical toolset for plant performance reporting.
- Support asset transfer and integration of new sites.
- Collaborate with Asset Development and mobilisation teams on SCADA/OT requirements for new sites and manage timelines.
- General IT or OT activities and housekeeping on SCADA system.
- SCADA troubleshooting, maintenance and extension.
- Setup or maintenance of ancillary services such as CCTV, power quality meters or revenue check-meter
- Site telecoms setup and maintenance, including tender and selection.
- Manage and interface with various ISPs.
- System troubleshooting.
- Substation RTU programming, commissioning and maintenance.
- Intelligent electronic device integration.
- Carry out projects as required by the business from time to time.
- Develop/Specify new tools to help create safer/more efficient work environment.
- Attend and contribute regular meetings with various SCADA stakeholders.
- Training of new users and of new systems.
- Managing system upgrades.
- Documentation of new sites.
- Management of Change documentation on existing sites
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience
- A relevant technical qualification and/or equivalent experience in a SCADA or other form of telemetry system.
- The successful candidate shall be flexible, service motivated, commercially focussed with excellent communication skills and capability to work on its own initiative.
- Strong reporting and documentation skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Windows operating systems
- Working knowledge of IP networks,
- Basic understanding of standard telemetry communications protocols (IEC104, DNP3, Modbus, OPC or ODBC)
- The candidate must have a clean driving license and their own transport as travel to site will be a regular feature of the position.
Location
The successful candidate will be based in Dublin or a suitable Renewable Generation Site in the jurisdiction. Travel to windfarms and other sites will be a feature of this role.
Reporting to
Reporting to Renewables O&M Remote Operations Manager.

Salary
€59,000 - €70,000 Per Annum
