Safety Advisor (Electrical)
Position Description

Network Projects is the group within ESB Engineering and Major Projects (EMP) whose contribution is to efficiently deliver ESB Network major capital infrastructure projects and engineering solutions required to meet these goals.
The Safety Advisor will work in conjunction with the EMP Safety team and Network Projects delivery teams to ensure that the business is fully compliant with legislation and ESB/ESB Network requirements and that Contractors are operating to the highest standards on site to ensure the safe delivery of ESB Networks major capital program on Substation, Cable & OHL projects.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Implementation and Compliance - Ensure full implementation of EMP and ESB Network Safety requirements, including ISO 45001 standards, across all project sites.

Contractor Oversight and Assurance - Conduct electrical safety assurance audits, review contractor safety documentation and procedures, and support procurement processes related to contractor safety management.

Safety Leadership and Culture - Promote a proactive safety culture among project teams and contractors through engagement, leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Incident Management and Investigation - Lead and participate in investigations of incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.

Training and Knowledge Sharing - Deliver safety training and develop learning forums for internal teams and contractors to enhance safety awareness and competence.

Providing expert advice to Project teams on ESBN Safety Procedures, Electrical Safety rules and other relevant procedures.

Reporting and Continuous Improvement - Compile and analyse safety performance data, report trends to SHE and Project Managers, and identify best practices and emerging safety trend.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
-
A Level 7 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical utility health and safety with expertise in areas of electrical safe systems of work (incl. Operations, LOTO, Commissioning.

Legislative Knowledge - Strong understanding of relevant health and safety legislation, codes of practice, electrical safety rules and industry standards.

Communication Skills - Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively across all levels.

Leadership and Influence - Proven capability in stakeholder engagement, leadership, and influencing safety outcomes in complex project environments.

Initiative and Independence - Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, and drive safety improvements proactively.
- Full, clean Irish driver's licence.
Desirable

Utility and Electrical Infrastructure Expertise – Electrical Engineering/Technician qualifications with proven experience supporting the development and construction of large-scale electrical transmission assets.

Safety and Environmental Competence - Trained in safety auditing with practical experience in ISO 45001 implementation, complemented by relevant environmental qualifications and experience.

Project Team Support - Skilled in advising and collaborating with project teams to ensure safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence throughout all project phases.
Location
This position will be based in One Dublin Airport Central, Dublin Airport. The role will also require some travel.
ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least two anchor days per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.

The role will report to the Safety Health & Environment Manager, Network Projects EMP, P&S.

Salary
€57,900 - €68,100 per annum (depending on experience)
